Title: hello all
Post by: Chaos on June 21, 2007, 09:52:26 pm
Well, I finaly joined. I was one of the few that bought FS2 but damm If I cant find the game! well, I have moved to 3 different houses since I have owned the game.

Im glad I found you and your site, I will probably have lots of questions since It seems almost imposible to find a good copy of FS2. Now if I can only find that force feed back joy stick I had 5 years ago when I played this game I would be in Business!

...Too bad FSPort is down... :(  You could play FS1, too!  Oh, well, when the server comes back up you can play it.

damm, I cant run the game.

when I try to click on the FS2 launch icon it launches the first screen with the play, update and so on. When I click on the Play button it gives me "please configure your system in the launcher before running FS2 The launcher will now be started" and when you click on "OK"  it gives me another error, "FreeSpace2/Fred2 cannot be run from a drive root directory"

anybody know what Im doing wrong?

You are running the retail Launcher, I think... your shortcut should point to Launcher.exe, not to FreeSpace2.exe.  I say this because you said it has the "play, update and so on"... FS2 Open Launcher does not have the update button, if I recall correctly.  That having been said, IDK why retail isn't working..?  It's supposed to work as well as FSOpen.  If the FSOpen Launcher is giving you this error, then IIRC the way to fix it is to delete the Launcher6.ini file and run the Launcher again.

The way to fix it is to set up your shortcut correctly.

If you look at the properties of the shortcut you'll probably see that the Start In box is empty. This should point at the same folder you installed FS2 in.

Your biggest problem is what jr2 mentioned though. You're running the FS2 launcher not the SCP one.

Thanks alot for the replies you 2, I would like to know how do you run the SCP launcher? witch icon is that? and I stayed up late last night working to fix it and I found I could use "C:\Games\FreeSpace2\Launcher.exe" but I had to download some .dll file program to get it to run.

All I need now is a Joystick and Im back in the game!!

about the multi, no one's ever on. you kind of have to get to know people and set up games with set times and all that. and ya, c:\games\freespace2\launcher.exe is the right file. which dll do you need?

OpenAL almost certainly. And you shouldn't just get the DLL. Go to OpenAl.org and grab the proper download.

For Multi, try downloading the TC BSG:BtRL demo... more ppl are on that currently.  Multi will get alot better in 3.6.10, and I think 3.7.0 might be a revolution... but 3.7.0 is at the end of this year perhaps.
