Title: Oh dear god no!
Post by: IPAndrews on July 04, 2007, 09:25:04 am
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/6267680.stm  :eek2: And I'm not even a Dr Who fan!

"We are delighted that one of Britain's greatest talents has agreed to join us for the fourth series," he said."

Oh FFS.

I wasn't a huge fan of the last companion but Catherine Tate? This is really pandering to the masses. I truly hope they don't drive Dr Who into the ground... it all started off so well.

I see were this is going. It's been a while since the Doctor has lost a companion....

Just as long no one says "I am bovvered!" throughout the whole series, I'll be happy. I missed last years Xams special, so I don't know how good/bad/indifferent it was! (I was too drunk as per usual!  ;7 )

Download it off the web. Watch it. Watch Tate. Reassess.

The thing is... Tate isn't that terrible in the Christmas special, but she's - to my mind - in a different league of TV from Dr Who.

Who is still something of a cult/childrens thing. It's more main stream now with its bigger budget and celebrity appearances but it just isn't the same kind of thing as the Catherine Tate Show - which really was ****e. The sort of thing people who read The Sun would enjoy. My fear is that they're going to stop Dr Who (as a show) being intelligent so that people who like Tate can understand what's going on. They can't please everyone without making it less than Dr Who was to begin with.

You mean yet more of the BBC dumbing down?

I just remember her shouting - constantly - annoyingly - until I switched the channel.

It's odd, Doctor Who ended the last time because Sylvester Mccoy sucked, I actually quite liked Ace, who's solution to everything was an explosion.

It'd be kind of ironic if this time around it suffered because they'd finally managed to get the Doctor sorted and screwed up on the assistant.

Yes Sylvester McCoy did suck as the doctor, however, Dr Who had been on the decline since Peter Davison played the doctor. I mean how wimpy is Peter Davison!

True, It was that whole 'regeneration room' episode that put me off, I think, just as Peter Davidson became the Doctor, I'm all for complex storylines, but that just got into the ridiculous, and this is from someone who used to enjoy 'Sapphire and Steel'.

I loathe Kylie. Everyone I know loathes Kylie. I wouldn't be surprised if that view is shared by a majority of Australians.

There was a time you know when people guest stared and starred on Doctor Who BEFORE they became famous.

And Kylie... I'm sorry she has the face like a goat, which is why the kept drawing attention to her ass in publicity. Yes folks her ass was better looking than her face and they new it. Thats usually an insult. and her ass was pretty boring too.

I just saw the Christmas Special...that and the third season are just showing on CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) this summer so we're a bit behind.  Not knowing who she was or where she was from (still don't) I thought she was quite alright for the show.  The Doctor is still a mile a minute complex character and I don't think he's lost any of that charm...unless something goes horribly wrong in season 3 that I haven't seen yet.

Why thank you FLipside   ;7

I just wanna add, that I am well miffed that the master died, he had personality and style. :D Aside from the flash gordon "grab the ring at the end bit" that last episode was possibly my faveourite. Master < Doctor
