Is there a Modeling tool that allows me to draw lines?Like the lines when you go on model on line part. Thanks in advance.
Hades
-
Like...Sketchup? Or do you mean something else?
-
Any, as long it has a line system part.
-
line system part? :wtf:
ok, I'm going to guess you do not speak English as a first language, and that you are looking for a modeling program like truespace, 3ds max, lightwave, maya, or the like.
-
Yea, sorry, but...you're not making any sense O_o
-
Eh sorry about that.It is hard to explain. You know like the lines that make up a cube?I mean were i can draw lines to make a ship shape.
-
Sketchup.
-
ok, usually those are referred to as edges, and that's rare, usually people talk about polygons, and in any case the programs I listed are what you want.
-
Well I think I found a modeling tool..But were can i find a POF2COB converter.And were can i find 3ds max?
-
well to legaly acquire 3D max you need several thousand dollars, other methods exists but they are not to be talked about in public, and I don't personally know of any of them (I'm happy with truespace)
and you don't want pof2cob, you want PCS version two is in my sig, though I don't remember if it converts from pof to cob at this point
-
Sketchup or Blender 3d sound like what you're after. (Both are free too)
I don't know exactly how you'd do it in sketchup, but in blender the modeling technique I often use is kinda like a 3d wireframe dot-to-dot thing.
This pic kinda vaguely illustrates it, (http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y184/VA--Twisted_Infinities/BlenderModelingTechnique.jpg) but you can essentially go from a 2d dot-to-dot outline to a 3d mesh with practice. :)
-
I have blender, how do I get to that?Im also going to try to HTL the Miner2t-01.
-
To go from 2d to 3d just takes practice really, but as long as you can picture how to do something if you were making a physical model wire frame, you can do it in 3d. :)
If you want a sorta intro thing, here's what I wrote up for another fella who asked me about it recently:
====
One of the best ways to get into a program is to do tutorials
There are some very good introductory video tutorials on the blender website here:
http://blender.org/cms/Getting_started.400.0.html
I would highly recommend watching them to start you off because they give you a solid grasp of the concepts underlying the whole interface. (I watched them having worked with blender for years, and I still learned some new stuff. :D )
After that there is one FS related tutorial, and it's also the first one I ever found: http://freespace.volitionwatch.com/fs2/mods/fighterguide/
However, it doesn't actually teach very good modeling technique and is waaaay out of date now. It'll give you the most basic of basic ideas of the controls, but there's actually some really bad practices in there too. For example, the wings should have been mirrored rather than being made twice, and it shows no way to connect the wings to the fuselage.
It's also a really ugly design. ;)
Anyway, aside from that I've written up a mini-tutorial here a while back which has a lot of helpful functionality instructions:
http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,42815.msg879403.html#msg879403
I am currently writing up a big tutorial that will cover the complete process of building, UV mapping, texturing, hierarchy setup, conversion and POF editing using only free programs such as Blender and The Gimp. However, it's progressing slowly as I have so much to do already and so little free time in which to do it. :(

well to legaly acquire 3D max you need several thousand dollars
google a torrent or something of 3dsmax like that because i cant link the link or else i got pwnd by the admins
my brother said it had the line thingy you wanted... ;)
im now dowloading a trial of truespace 6.6 but i have a feeling its way to hard for me :nervous: because i never modeled before...
so here's a question to the best of modelers here on the HLP forum: how did you started? :nervous:
-
If I were you I would remove that link before some Admin pwns you for posting warez at HLPBB.

lol thanks for the warning :D!

The Eye of Sauron moves onward....
Seriously though, Lightwave works with edges as well quite a lot, it's really a question of finding the right tool for whatever job you want to do at that time.
-
Goddamit I missed the warez.
Be careful, lefkos. Watch yesself on these forums. The Eye of the Admins seez all. Seriously.

haha yes i think i noticed it :nervous:
if you want i pm it to you.. ;7

Does Rhino count (since the topic was about drawing lines and stuff)? And what is the term for this, is it called NURBS modelling or something? :doubt:
I never knew Blender had that feature though. Should go take a look.

No thanks.
Have you heard of a certain SOC operative? He did some warez fun. He would never go by the same name again.
-
Legal or not, I personally don't think any company is gonna give a hoot about a couple guys here and there using their wares for volunteering on a free project. If it were me, I'd be ecstatic that you'd use mine instead of something else, cause when you get hired by a company for being so awesome at modeling and you actually have to buy your software, wouldn't they rather you had trained yourself on theirs instead of a free alternative? Many software products have the 'free except for commercial use' policy in place, and I think it would do these other companies some good to latch on to that philosophy.
-
unfortunately they haven't yet latched on.
-
If any of you use GMAX...
Well I just spent 20 hours figuring out how to use the bloody thing to export.
Oh it's FREE (or was) but proprietary, you need the quake md3 exporter and THEN you can use Milkshake/3dexploration etc to do whatever with your creation...
But that's only is you like Gmax modling...
PM your email to me if the more specific workaround is needed... (all I'm gonna say is thank God for Microsoft! LOL now that's ironic!)

*Submits his requisition forms in triplicate for Private Hades to get a shorter sig*

Truespace has vertice creation doesn't it? :nervous:
-
yeah, several different flavors

Ok il shorten my UBER long siggy.

Please shorten it.
You haven't even been here long enough for that speech not to apply to you.

Another question, How do i texture in Wings 3D?
-
Skeeettchuuuup
UT I've been playing around with Sketchup for a little while now and I finally have a model I would like to show. How do you take those awesome screenshots that you post here? Are they taken from within Sketchup or do you use another program?
-
Press Print screen and past to paint etc :nervous:
-
Sigh, Which Ver of Wings3D has the Cut and mirror Feature?
-
Personally i use maya for modelling, but fs2 models i use truespace, cuz i'm stil OMGWTFBBQ lightyears away from figuring out how to export .obj files that work.
-

I was referring to those shots in his sketch-up models thread with multiple camera angles in a single shot. He had to use some kind of editor for that.
-
use Irfranview, select screen capture, choose entire screen area 9take out cursor), then initiate capture and tie to key. minimize Irfranview
Start sketchup, get to scene you want (I never used it so guessing) with the multi-views and hit the key you bound screen capture to. File is saved to the location you chose. that's it...
