Sooo, any old players from 1999-2001 time still around?
Most probably do not know me here, but that's okay :)

-
I used to play a lot in those days. I remember seeing you around the lobby a few times.
-
You already know who i am mate, LOA--JK47, I think asie from the arch-admins and one or two lurkers who surface every two or three years, it's an entirey new generation.........

These guys are mostly captain janeways to our kirks...... :nervous:
There maybe one or two Picards and Sisko's around here too! :P
-
hahaha What's up JK :) I was hoping Auger would still be around, or Riggs for that matter. I haven't talked to those guys in many years, unfortunately :( How are you doing?
Anybody know if SSC-Mustang is still around?
-
He wouldn't be Mustanger or Mustang19, would he? They are HLP members, IDK.. *shrugs*
-
I played back then.
-
I was knowed as "Salvador" in both FS1 and FS2 back in the PXO era...
-
i predate ssc - i was squadron leader of the 55th
-
While I've been playing Freespace 2 since 99 I never really got into multiplayer. I tried it a few times back when I first started playing but the lag was so horrible I gave up.
-
I didn't really play back then. For one, I only had the game for a period of about three months, and all of my multi time was spent on co-op with my brother. Shivan gauntlet, FTW!!
And anyway,
:welcomegreen:
(is this this beam's first official welcome?)
-
Why would you make your own beam?
And anyway, I wasn't able to play back then, unfortunately :( Too slow a connection.
-
I will refrain from correcting you as you have not seen the announcement yet.
-
My bad. In that case, the new beam sucks :p
-
I also played very, very little online back then due to being stuck on dialup.
But I have been around the FS community (at varying levels of maturity) since Oct '98. :)
-
Yo. Been around since the days of the vbb.
-
ahh good ol' vbb. I miss it =\
-
... I wonder if this is what it'll be like when Savage dies down ... I actually didn't realise there was such a large online FS2 community back then, and i was stuck on dialup so if i did go online, i'd be like shooting where you were 5 seconds ago.
-
Yeah the Maxim/Kayser combo...........
@cal
No more LOA on here apart from us, But the scp and wing commander/battlesar/babylon mods (and many more) are keeping me glued to HLP for the forseeable future.
What wing were ya horsemen? Me and Dredd were Delerium...
-
and of course there was squad war...it's been so long for my horrible memory that i nearly completely forgot what it was. Can somebody tell me actually?
-
I wasn't on multiplayer, but I have played FS1 since it came out, and i have played FS2 for about 6 years (the only good thing about Logitech joysticks: they used to come with FS2)
@haloboy100: You stole 2 of my siggy links like hours after I added them! WTF!?!?

@haloboy100: You stole 2 of my siggy links like hours after I added them! WTF!?!?
I did? well the "SPAMAGE!!!!" one is different from mine, as it's a different reply. And the idiot one i found out about an hour ago (and notice how each word in that last phrase is a differant link, if it means anything). Sorry for the inconvenience.
-
No, I jst meant that if you wanted to idolize me, you could at least show my name in your siggy, or copy my every move.
-
Guess I should have replied.
Squad war was fun. Each squad fought over sectors which were color coded to a particular squad.
-
I play FreeSpace 2 since its release.
Sure, there were a break between 2002 and 2004 afaik, because i lost the look for Freespace Campaigns after the volitionwatch freespace archives were broken.
And only two years later (actually i though it was 2006, but after i saw my profile... i am really registered since 11 years :eek2: ) i found HLP and the SCP, again. Right after the SCP left the 3.5 branch and released the totally new 3.6.0 version :D.
But i've never played Freespace in multiplayer.
-
I started playing in 2001 when my father brought FS1 from shop:D I was 7 then.
-
Holy 7 year old thread Batman!
-
I was old then, and I'm old now. Not sure how I would get young again but v0v.
-
Hey it's Blue Lion!
We missed you on AG dude, thought you had a terrible accident or something like that. Glad to see you are still around, old or not so much :D
-
Have you guys seen the pilot image/squadron logo dump? It's on freespace files (check the banner highlights topic) and full of nostalgia!
-
Damn... I can't even remember what my nick in the old days used to be... but I was around.
-
I was S-99 back in 2000. Barely played multi as was on dial up. It was fun. Wish multi you could join a server at any time of progress of the mission :)
-
I've never played FS2 online. :(
Had the game since it first came out. I vaguely remember my older brother buying the FS1 from a shop in the Trafford Centre in Manchester, then a few weeks later he came home with FS2 in his hand. I barely had the internet back then and like most others, I was stuck on dial-up with a 2 hour limit. Hovered around the forums for many years but never really got involved until very recently (hence post count), but being a massive Babylon 5 fan, it was The Babylon Project mod that grabbed my attention after the cancellation of "Into the Fire".
Not really relevant to the multiplayers here... but hey... thought I would add me tuppence!
-
:welcome:
And the old players thread.
It's an old players, not old multi player thread so you're welcome
-
Playing FreeSpace in 1999? I was there, but I never got into multiplayer in a big way. I was also modding here and there back in the day (mostly table alterations).
I remember I did create something rather fun - gave cruisers crazy firepower and made cap ships have slow moving lasers, like the green blobs from Orion. But, if they hit you, it was a 1 hit kill.
It worked quite well - kept you moving when around capital ships and actually made you worry about cruisers.
-
When Freespace 2 came out, I was still living in the Caribbean with my parents, and the island really hadn't gotten good fiber yet. I played multiplyer once or twice, it was always really fun. Freespace is what got me started in 3D modeling and modding video games.
-
I played back in 1999 with FS1, FS2 and all the add-ons after that. Dabbled in multiplayer, but mostly off liner here. Lost most of my FS stuff on my old puter and am now on this gamer laptop I got 3 weeks ago. Wavin hello to all :)
-
Old puter still around? Still have hard disk?
-
I played FS1 back in the day, but never online. (Think my only online game at that point was Diablo.
I didn't actually get FS2 till it it went up on GoG (because I heard about the SCP). Still never online, though.
-
When did FS2 go out of print? Because I started playing fs1 pretty much RIGHT after that. Mostly single player, but I eventually started playing online a little bit. There were like, 1 or 2 games up or a few guys in the lobby those days. The one name I remember from fs1 was an aussie guy Vaathal (spelling?). Seemed like me and him were the last ones to leave fs1. For me, it was because I didn't have fs2. When I finally got it from Ebay, I remember being amazed that there were FIVE games up at a time! :D I "joined" Arjuna Dragons (squadwar was LONG dead) and was around for the last attempt at teamwars, but it wasn't long after I started playing that PXO went down for good and what part of the community I knew about died out. I found this place years later, though I had heard of the SCP back in the day.
-
jr2, good news, found my external backup drive I left at my parents place. Files are not up to date, but most of it is there. Better that than none at all :) Life is good!
-
Backup drive meaning backup drive or meaning your old disk from your system (i.e., do you need help pulling stuff off of it or is it a drive that you'd used to store stuff you'd already pulled off of your system)?
Links in my signature for reviving dead hard disks if you need. (Although dead system =/= dead hard disk, sometimes you can just pull the disk and read from it if it wasn't damaged and it was instead, for example, just a dead motherboard.)
-
it's an external portable hard drive. It was my mom who suggested I get one many moons ago and she backed it up way back then and I didn't know it until last week. My Mom has built like 8 or 9 PC's since the late 1990's.
-
 :)
