Don't knock Transcend, Transcend is cool, in fact it's better than cool its
Transcendant

Transcendant was creepy (those weird voices) :shaking:.But fun. Don't ever try it with out a mouse. You'll get killed easy. ;)
It was like Second best Campaign ever.(1st was Inferno :P).

Meh I had no difficulty using the gamepad! :P

... I've always played fs2 with a laptop mouse. No problems here.
-
I have an idea for 3.6.10. Make all of the cheats work. I mean the ones like ~+s and ~+shift+s and the rest of the ones that never worked.
-
I meant the Pad.you see the pad?Not mouse The Pad.

You mean one of those touchpad things! Yeah it could be difficult with that! Not only that you don't have a number pad either do you!
-
Well i have to Press Fn and then scroll at same time to get numlock so i can use it.You know how some new laptop have the numbers on the J-K-L-I-O-M.I have a picture I think.

I would also like to see the www.freespace2.com part replaced by something shorter. That site hasn't been updated in several years and it's annoying to type it in repeatedly when testing missions.
-
Yea like Deimos. :D

Yeah I have a laptop with that function (Fn) key and the numpad on those letters, unfortunately you can't Alt -J if it's activated as the J key becomes a 4 (IIRC). That's why I like to use my trusty PS2 pad with USB adapter! (FTW!) :P
-
Joystick FTW!!
I tried a gamepad and didn't last 10 seconds in Freespace or any game for that matter. Half the reason i don't play console games.

Joystick FTW!!
I tried a gamepad and didn't last 10 seconds in Freespace or any game for that matter. Half the reason i don't play console games.
I started out on consoles as I couldn't afford a decent PC at the time so a gamepad is almost second nature to me now! Even when I played on consoles I knew that the PC was the superior games machine! :D I still have a PS1 and PS2 lying around somewhere, (actually the PS2 is used regularly by wife who plays The Sims on it  and ever since she got that game I have not been able to get near the thing! :hopping:)
-
 In fact My mom likes the sims. She has like 3 games of it for her computer.
-
I have the numpad feature on my laptop but for those of you with one, I would suggest getting a keyboard, preferably wireless. My wireless keyboard has the Insert, End, PGup, PGdown buttons messed up, though, in a different configuration.
-
I fail any game using my tiny little d-pad, and yea, my laptop needs to fn to get numlock. Kinda irritating when FREDing.
-
my keyboard may be an old HP peice of crap but it works like brand new. all the buttons work great and even the numpad since i use it excessively from all the FPS gaming :D (i use the numpad for movements, but that just means i can use all the buttons besides numbers 8, 5, 4, 6, and 2 for utilities. Quite useful!)
-
I use the numpad in practically every game too. The only disadvantage is that I have to push the keyboard to one side when I load up something, but I would much rather do that than use WASD (misaligned) or the arrow keys (not enough extra keys around it).
-
another disadvantage is that if you don't bind your keypaths right you can hit the numlock key by accident and everything screws up
-
I prefer WASD myself but then I was a heavy FPS player until I re-found FreeSpace2 and the wonderful SCP :pimp:
-
I'm still primarily an FPS player, but I started off with Descent and had always used the numpad in that, so I continued to use that later on.
-
My first video game ever was Fs1. :hammer:
-
My first was Crystal Quest in 1990. :D
-
My first was Asteroids on the Atari 7800, i forget what year, but it was bought from Argos in Woolwich............. ;)
-
my first is descent :P
-
Use...a...JOYSTICK... GODDAMMIT!!!
Really, though, you can get a half-good joystick for 30$ and my Saitek EvoForce was only 80$Cdn. The best joystick I ever bought.
-
well i use numpad for FPS games, like i said in my last post. I use joysticks for flying aircraft in those games (go figure ), and of course for space-sims.
-
Cheats < Feces

Cheats < Faeces
Anyhoo, keyboard pure, = best method of FS control ;7
-
my first game was a dos heli copter shooter which i never figured out what i was supposed to do.
-
On the Transcend topic, it's basically you vs everyone else, no re-inforcements, no re-arming, no changing weapons loadouts (you have Prom R + Subach HL-7, Interceptor missiles + Hornet Missiles), and you are stuck with the same ship type (the crappiest fighter evar, the Herc II... They took the Herc, neutered it by removing a pair of gunmounts, and it's got 55 max speed, which is like +5 from the original.)
All this makes me  :mad2: :hopping: :hopping: :mad2:
-
(you have Prom R + Subach HL-7, Harpoon missiles + Hornet Missiles)
What's with everybody (by everybody i mean all the enemy AIs and the game loads you out like this by default) using this combo anyways? I'd choose dual subachs over Prom R + subby any day, and IMO the hornet is a horrible interceptor missile, even in fs1. so i only use it for capital ships, but it became a liability more then once in the transcend campaign.
-
Hornets are good for when your playing chicken with an enemy. ;7 :P
-

If you run in debug mode, cheats are enabled by default.

Does Debug have any adverse effects?

Does Debug have any adverse effects?
It warns you about every single thing wrong with your table files. Of course, this isn't adverse if you edit them properly.
It also does significantly more error checking, so it has the potential to run slower. And it displays memory usage and such on top of your HUD.

Which it does, unfortunately. The loading times are especially bad. That's why I don't like to use it.

Hi
Sorry for digging up such an old topic, but ... dunno.
I'm having trouble using cheats in FS2.
I typed in "www.freespace2.com" and I get a message that cheats are enabled.
Now, when pressing ~ and G (simultaneously or holding one key down and pressing the other), nothing happens.
I'm using a Dell laptop and first I thought that could be the problem, but I tried on my desktop PC and still nothing.
Using Winblows XP and FS2_open 3.6.9 that I acquired with the online installer approx. in the beginning of 2007.
BUT I haven't tried installing the latest FS2  thought it wouldn't be the problem with cheating.
And if anybody cares, I'm trying to cheat because I'm not able to destroy all the beam cannons in time in the Bearbait mission. Even when playing on "Very easy" setting. Soooo I though that cheat would get me to the next missions.
Thanks!

:necro: (couldn't resist)
and
:welcomeblue: demented!
Oh man... double-beam spammage the first time I've used 'em... the power may go to my head.
IIRC, marking goals complete doesn't truly complete them as far as the next mission is concerned, but it allows the mission to continue with new events based on them being complete. So long story short, you still have to do it the hard way.
Now, on the mission in particular, you don't need to destroy all four to continue, only two. Or if that's the point, you've already nailed 2 but want to clear the mission with all destroyed, then by all means cheat away with invulnerability and infinite bombs if that tickles your fancy. After the 10th time or so playing the mission, I decided to disable it rather than remove the beams... needless to say the dev's didn't seem to think of that one ;) There was a video someone posted (it's on you-tube) of every goal getting completed that you may try using to help. You could do a forum search for bearbait and likely find it.
Though it's probably moot now, on the subject of changing the enable code and making ones like 'destroy targeted subsystem' work, I'd like to second/third whatever that. Debug mode is counterproductive if you're testing missions that aren't making changes to tables, etc.
-
:welcomeblue: -Aarrrgh, beaten to the punch!!! :hopping: j/k ;)
Hmm, perhaps it would help to take out the flak turrets first? I know Goober5000 has finished that mission taking out all 4 beam turrets, both flak turrets, and the small beam cannon in back on Insane. Get the flak turrets off your back.
As far as cheating goes, ~ + G isn't a cheat AFAIK. Were you perhaps thinking of Alt + G? Or Shift + G?
Volition pirate ship
When in a mission type in "arrrrwalktheplank" This will call in the Volition pirate ship (actual galleon) complete with flak guns and characters.

The best tactic is to task your wingment with hittng the flak guns (they usually soak up some of the fire before expiring horribly) and head straight for the arms at full burn.
Get inside the arm to about a 30-45 degree angle while drilling the Akheton into them and hit your burners before your fire your helios torps. Then use a few trebs at the flak guns until you can fire the helios again.
Usually works first time, just watch you don't get run over when the Sath's had enough. That kinda hurts... :(
-
~G is a cheat, AFAIK.
I decided to disable it rather than remove the beams
It's impossible to disable a Sath, even without a limited amount of time. It has like seven engines which take like 10 Helioses each to destroy. By the time you disable it you might as well have just killed it. I assume that you cheated, though. ;7
-
Strange, invulnerabilty and infinite ammo works, but not "complete goals" :doubt:
jr2:
I thought ~ + G is cheat enough, because it completes my goals :)
Anyways, with invul. and infinite ammo I can still destroy only 2 beam cannons, but not flak. Even if I send all wings to destroy flak and shoot those myself. I still suck. And if I manage to destroy 2 beam cannons, but not flaks, I still can't continue, only replay. So is there any possible way to skip this mission? If not, I'm F'd.
-
It's hard, but possible. Tell all of your wingmen to protect you and then call a support ship as soon as you warp in. Engines to max and fire four Trebs on dual-fire at the top-most turret closest to you as soon as you are in range. Equalize energy once less than 1500m away. Fire your Akhetons at the first turret and once 300m away fire your bombs. Destroy it and then shoot your other Trebs at the other top-most turret. Finish it off in the same way with bombs and Akhs and rearm. Repeat the process with the other two turrets and then get out of the way and pick off rear turrets. The rest is a cakewalk.
-
OK. I cheated my way through Bearbait. Without cheats it would've been impossible for a newbie like me :)
Invulnerability and infinite ammo did the trick and I managed to get 3 beam cannons - yay!
Thanks everybody!
P.S. watched Goober5000's video of Bearbait and it's just sick! (in a good way)
P.P.S. Sathanas' explosion was spectacular and heartwarming. Eat my rockets Shivans.

Cheat? Nevar! I er, just 'acquired' some LRBGreens for primaries!
Glad you got through it demented. Sorry you had to cheat though. You'll have to go back in the mission simulator later and beat it legitimately. ;)
-
How many Helios' does it take to take out the two flak guns?
I think the blast from one round of fire kills both from the blast, but I don't know how strong they are.
I can get the 4 turrets in easy, but I get killed by the flak guns in hard. By the way, exactly which tuurets do your wingmen attack when you order them to destroy subsystem?
-

The one you have targeted at the time of your order!

I did it when I was a newb. Are you playing with a mouse/keyboard? That may be the problem. Or you may be using a Logitech joystick.

Would be nice to **** around with.
Load the mission up in FS1 where you fly Arjuna 1
destroy the Lucifer with cheats and go 10,000,000 units awya and watch da big b00m

Keyboard only. Well, mouse also for main menu :) What's up with Logitech joysticks? I was just planning to buy "Logitech Wingman Attack 3". My first time with joysticks.
-
I have had 3 Logitechs die on me. My suggestion, get a Saitek EVO Force, $80 Canadian.
