Title: Help, openal sound problems with Freespace SCP
Post by: Sclorch on July 10, 2007, 02:06:03 pm
Hi I just finished downloading Freespace SCP. The audio isn't working in the game, I have tried both 'General Hardware' and 'Nvidia(R) nforce(TM) Audio, but it always gives me the "OpenAL 1.1 is required to start this program...." But I already installed openal and no amount of reinstalling is doing any good. Also I don't have a 'General Software' option. I think that is what I used on my other computer to get it running, help what am I doing wrong???

Are you sure you don't have 1.0?

2 possible causes.

1) Don't use any form of hardware acceleration for the audio as it mostly likely won't work (unless you have a very recent creative soundcard. They work sometimes).

Use Generic Software only.

2) Check your Windows\System32 folder for the presence of nvopenal.dll (or ct_oal.dll for that matter but you're unlikely to have that one installed on an NForce board). If you find them. Delete them and reinstall OpenAl.
