In mission 2 Escort Duty after I've flown in front of the TCS Aurora and set my auto pilot to nav 1, about half way to the nav point the game crash and displays an error message.

Has anyone else had this problem or is it just me?

Can you reproduce that ? That's just another one of those seldom crashes when the "change-ship-class SEXP" is executed.
-
Yes every time I play that mission :(
-
Did you change default configuration (e.g. video mode for example)?

Yes I change all the settings from High to Max. Anyway I set the Particle setting back from custom to very high and now the game works fine.
-
I mean in the launcher.
-
The only thing I changed in the launcher was the resolution from 1024x768 to 1280x1024 though the problem was caused by me changing the particle setting from very high to ultra high. I have since change the setting back to very high and the game is working now.

interesting. Thanks for the info!

Interesting. I wonder why that particular SEXP is affected by the particle details
