Hey. I wanted to put a FS2 Open multiplayer (NetD) activity a little up. I have launched standalone server that will be 'free for all' (no password to play at) but... Standalone is launched with FS2 OEB (1.3.8) a.k.a. Tom's build. I can't start it with SCP builds like 3.6.9 because all connected clients will have crash-to-desktop every time while mission loading. I heard that 3.6.10 version will have some new NetD code, so I hope there will be no problems with standalone-app too.
But until 3.6.10 appearance, I have a problem to let freespacers play on my standalone. Since 3.6.9 build (which is used by almost all current multiplayer gamers) can't show any OEB hosts or standalones on a server list, players will unable to see my standalone neighter.
So, I have a huge ask to you, coders. Can you compile a build that will be based on 3.6.9 code, but will be able to show all standalone servers launched with OEB build? (Note: only oeb's standalone servers should be view, 'normal' oeb's hosts should be unable to see as in standard 3.6.9 version to avoid uncompatibility of OEB clients and 3.6.9 clients in the same game).
Then, I will annouce and tell players to use that modified 3.6.9 build so they can play at oeb's standalones for now.
Greetings! :)

be ready for a hostile response... we consider OEBs bad

I would rather use Open as well, but standalone server is stable only with OEBs :(

No.
Period.
And if there are bugs in the 3.6.9 standalone server, you should post them on Mantis.

Right... thanks. :blah:

I agree with you, but that attitude was uncalled for.

Hmm. On reconsideration, you're right, and I apologize. :o
The OEB question usually gets asked by flaming n00bs who throw a fit when they're told no, so I wanted to head that off at the first post. However, Foxer's question was phrased in a very gentlemanly way, and didn't deserve the heavy-handed response.

In this case, I can see where he is coming from. Although it would take far too much work to do what he wants, there have been various mission loading crash bugs in the game for quite a while now and Taylor is aware of them. Any new mantis report on them, while certainly a good idea, is probably not going to get a quick resolution.
