The only ones I read outside of the ones that get posted here are Ransom's two comics: The Avatar (http://the-avatar.com/view.php?date=2007-07-04) and Porridge Cooling Darkly (http://www.porridgedarkly.com/). They're both serious comics, despite the latter's less-than-so title. The first half of The Avatar was a funny webcomic, then it turned into a dramatic one.
Basically, from the guy who wrote the stories of Sync and Transcend come two serious webcomics. They're a blast (though PCD never gets updated anymore).

I remember one of the guys from megatokyo drew me once. Went to an anime con years and years ago, was standing in line for my girlfriend who actually reads the comic (I've never read it) so I got to the front and she hadn't gotten back yet, they asked what I wanted drawn, I shrugged and the guy looked at me like I was crazy for having never heard of his comic before, so he said he'd just draw me, spent about 2 minutes on it, then gave it to me. My girlfriend shows up a few minutes later asking why I'm not in line, I handed her the paper and she looked at me and was like "Who the hell is that?"
I broke up with her soon after.

Funny comics that I read include Garfield, Wizard of Id, B.C, Andy Capp and Dilbert, though I'm not sure if they qualify, since they are all published on newspapers.
In addition to those I only read one comic that is somewhat serious, Better Days (http://www.jaynaylor.com/betterdays). It does have its humorous moments, but is mostly quite dramatic and deals with issues that some people surely find offensive or inappropriate. Nevertheless, I like it.
My two cents.
-
Dragon in the Courtyard and Crimson Dark ... nicely made comics..

PVP Online - www.pvponline.com

At the moment my webcomic reading consists of rice boy (http://riceboy.jho-tan.com/), Octopus Pie (http://octopuspie.com/), Minus (http://www.kiwisbybeat.com/), Horribleville (http://horribleville.com/), Riotfish (http://riotfish.com/2006/12/12/hmmm-guess-not/) and Dresden Codak (http://dresdencodak.com/).
They are all pretty classy.
-
Quite a few that have been mentioned already, and one that hasn't Something Positive (http://www.somethingpositive.net/), which is apparently relatively popular. Amongst some circles.
