If this is the wrong place for this/has been mentioned before, feel free to kill me:
Compaq Presario V5000
XP Home
Service pack 2
AMD Turiton 64 Mobile Technology ML-37
ATI Mobility Radeon Xpress 200 Series
latest drivers installed (about 2-3 months ago)
1.59 GHz, 1GB RAM
47 background processes (inc. Anti Virus & Firewall) using approx. 4% of CPU power
I have FS_Open (+Cardinal spear), INF:A and one mod i am making that's stable (problem affects them all).
fs2_open_3_6_9.exe +latest mediaVP's and patches
Flags: -spec -glow -jpgtga -2d_poof -missile_lighting -img2dds -rearm_timer -ship_choice_3d -3dwarp -warp_flash -fps
-ambient_factor 40v -no_emissive_light
The prob: If i get even close to looking at an HTL model, even with every single other flag turned off, it slows down to 2-4fps,
yet if i switch HTL off and run everything else (even adveffectsVP) i get 40-69fps, so i know its something to do with HTL. The
card can handle HTL AFAIK as it will load the model and the game still works, and AFAIK i should be able to load HTL without a prob
(i run games like Dawn of War on highest settings and its fluid even when the screen's crowded).
Any idea what this is? Is it just my card or have i set something wrong? Shall i mantis it?
-
Maybe just your card... Not sure though. The shared memory might be too low.
-
Are we talking laptop here?
-
Looks like it... just checked, yup it is.
EDIT: On the bottom, what is the model number? The one on top is just the series... what's the exact model number? eg, V5005US

V5094EA, is that what you were looking for?
It is a laptop, but its designed for gaming, and its been able to run pretty much every game i own so far.
-
ya, that be it... standby...
EDIT: Looks as if you can't change much in the way of settings to affect the GFX performance... more system memory would always help, but I doubt that's the problem here. Try upgrading the drivers?

Try upgrading the drivers?
I did that recently ('bout 2-3 months ago). AFAIK its got all the latest ones.
*edited top bit* <- so other posters know what's already been looked at.
-
Maybe your laptop has reachied its performance limit :nervous: Try running 3D benchmark or something simliar to get a performance score... :)
-
I've got my fs2 running on my laptop, but i don't believe i've tried running with HTL models. I really can't tell if its HTL or not.

Microprocessor AMD Turion™ 64 Mobile Processor ML-37 with PowerNow!™ Technology

Radeon Xpress 200M IGP / 128MB (http://ati.amd.com/products/radeonxpress200mIntel/specs.html).... is that the problem? (Someone who knows more about GFX cards & their specs check this link out.)

get rid of adv effects. my idea is that is using so much memory that when the models come in they are the straw that broke the camel's back. just a guess, though it doesn't make sense to me.

get rid of adv effects.
I've looked at that. I even ran HTL on its own (no other flags) and it was still 2-4fps. It runs Adv effects fine (40-60 average).

not enough beef in that video card.. infact i doubt it has hardware TCL and is just faking it
