So? Anyone seen thetrailer yet? No title is given, and any other sort of info apart from its release date, gonna be totally filmed with hand held video cameras too! looks like fun and caused a bit of a stir on the net. Here, have a peek.

Intriguing. Might be awesome or it might be a horrible monster flick where you only see fragments of the monster ("Surface" anyone ?)
-
didnt surface get canned after season 1?
-
Yes it was, and rightfully so.
-
surface could have been cool if it wasn't for that dumb kid...
-
I agree! A little too much ET for me... Though I didn't really like the female lead either very much. But the big monsters were nice.
But about this movie, many people think it could be Cthulhu! :D
-
Hey, I liked Surface!
Anyway, I really dig this cinematic style. I know it doesn't work for some people, but I find that this first-person pseudo-home video style really ramps up the immersion factor. Looking forward to this one.

I don't see any real way to hide a creature that can knock the head off of the Statue of Liberty, mind ;)
Certainly nice tension building though, interested to see what it's about....
-
I dont think they'll hide it. They might leave it to the very end of the movie though, ala blair witch. Or... hiding it would be even more BW...
-
Where's this "stir" you refer to? I'm on the internets now, and I feel no "stir". Perhaps my internets are broken?
-
I think he's talking about the blogosphere.
If you google for JJ Abrams you'll find dozens of blog entries, all containing the same scarce info about the project.
-
Youtube has some stuff on it too.
-
I've heard speculation of a Cthulhu film, and that would be A-Oh-freaking-kay with me.
-
Knocking off the Statue of Liberty's head is a pretty out-of-character thing for Cthulhu to be doing.

Dunno.. Cthulhu is known to be a temperamental guy...

The first real trailer has been released: http://www.apple.com/trailers/paramount/cloverfield/
Blog with some info and screencaps: http://www.cloverfieldnews.com/2007/11/19/official-2nd-trailer-for-cloverfield-up-at-applecom/#more-124
Scroll down to the embedded video clip to get a clearer slow-motion view of the brief glimpse we see the monster. Looks like some huge bipedal monstrosity .... so Cthulhu is still in the race.

You put your left foot in...
Your left foot out....
Seriously though, looks scarily like yet another Godzilla-esque movie from that shot.
-
Looks like another Godzilla knockoff to me.
-
Yes but it might even be a GOOD Godzilla knockoff.
-
I never watched the old Godzilla movies, could s/he breathe fire bombs?
:EDIT:
I hate Apple with a vengeance. It crashes my browser when it loads the video.
-
apple sucks

apple sucks
QFT.

Take a look at the screencap of the three people in the hallway. I think the guy on the left has a rifle. Also, I think there's a gaping hole in the wall behind them.
-
Cthulhu doesn't have claws. That Statue of Liberty has clear claw-marks. Don't ask me why a monster would feel the need to cut through the shoulder of the Statue of Liberty, then continue on with its life, but there they are.

I don't see wings in the animated .gif. :nervous:

Oh. Those claws. Right.
Well, uh, that thing is clearly more dragon than octopus, and Cthulhu brings to mind both and a human caricature, so it clearly can't be trusted.
-
Its totally going to be a Cthulhu movie. I can see it now. In the end, they finally discover the Magical Dungeon Dice, roll a double twelve, and send the demon back to its own dimension.
-
I still don't think city-destruction is at all characteristic of Cthulhu.

Cthulhu and insanity often going hand in hand, I don't think anything is characteristic of Cthulhu.
-
What I mean is it's not really in keeping with the style of Lovecraft's work. The threat has always been far more subtle than some giant monster stomping around a city and ripping off Liberty's head.
