Title: Newbie question about the campaigns...
Post by: Chesticus on July 17, 2007, 02:03:35 pm
It took a while, but with all of the help I got 3.6.9 working. What a labor of love, the game looks great. Than I went over to the forums "Wiki" dear God, all of these campaigns.

So how do you play them?

Are some already on the 3.6.9?

Do you install them one at a time and play them through the 3.6.9 launcher?

Is there a place where you go to get them specifically?

Do I load freespace 1 to get the othe mods installed

Just a few of my questions so far.... Again magnificent. :D

1) For campaigns that are packaged properly, go to the MOD tab of the launcher and point it to the directory the campaign is located in, then select the campaign from the campaign room in-game.
2) If you used the online installer to get the game, you've already got several of the campaigns, but far from all. If you just downloaded the executable and did a manual install, you did not get any extra campaigns.
3) You can install as many as you like, and switch between them using the launcher. Using a different pilot for each is recommended, though, as you will otherwise have to abandon the current campaign to start a new one.
4) There's a campaign list located Here (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,20956.0.html), in the Missions and Campaigns forum.
5) No need to load FS1. The FreeSpace Conversion (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/board,39.0.html) contains everything needed to play FS1 campaigns, as long as those have been modified to work on the FSO engine - You can find some of those in their forum, notably  Cardinal Spear and Destiny of Peace, probably two the best fan-made campaigns for FS1.

Hope that answers all your questions :)

Actually, that only counts in FS2 retail, In FS2 Open, you can switch between campaigns without losing progress... however, your pilot file, tracking your kills and such, becomes a bit weird.

I don't particularly care about my stats anyway, so I just use the same pilot(s) for multiple campaigns.

by weird, he means your pilot file can become corrupt and unusable.

But I'm of the same mindset as you, and if that ever happens to me, I can just make a new pilot.

Kinda funny.  I'm a double and now a triple ace, but I don't have the first Ace badge.
