I've decided to dig up FS2 from the stack of games, and I wonder if it might be time to get myself a joystick. However, I literally know nothing about joysticks, quality, etc. I've heard Logitech == bad. Can anyone offer me a good recommendation? It'd be nice to use it for X3, too.

CH or Saitek are the main players in quality joysticks. Of those, CH tends to be the more conservative but also the most reliable, while Saitek sticks look like transformers on crack and come loaded with features. Price-wise, CH only offers expensive high end sticks, while Saitek has a full range from budget to "I just won the lottery".
Both companies also offer throttle and pedal setups, but those are overkill if you're just now getting a joystick.
-
Wow, CH are a bit out of the price range I think.
As far as Saitek's go, I'm looking at the Cyborg Evo. Is it worth paying the extra money for the force feedback model?
-
Sidewinder Pro. A stalwart, time-tested and strong classic. Kinda like the original Herc. :D
-
Side winder force feedback pro was the best I ever used. Hard to get the drivers for it though
Actually I have found that the Logitech force pro has been good as well. 10x better than it used to be.

mine has that POV HAT switch so when im being shot at from behind, I can see them :D

i use the logitec wingman force 3d, and it works fine for me. it's actually how i discovered FreeSpace. the OEM came with it :P
-
i want me sindwinder back :(
As of now i'm using a logitech attack 3. No force feedback and RZ RY axis (at least i think thats what the twisting motion is called), but 11 buttons makes up for it. I don't see what's so bad about logitech, this has worked very well for me. I still want me sidewinder force feedback pro back :(
-
i have been using the same for the last ten years, Logitech Logitech Logitech, there **** has actually gotten pretty good for quality and their support is top notch
-
slightly off topic here, but does anyone know how to make fso use force feedback?
-
open up the launcher, and go to the "audio/joystick" tab. Rest is obvious.
BTW!!

I use a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro, and despite what everybody says about Logitech sticks, it works perfectly. And has for over a year now.
Wasn't that expensive either... I think it was somewhere around $30.

got em checked, must be something to do with my config, i have a logitec gamepad as well, and they sometimes confilct.

The Attack 3 isn't that great, big dead zone on it. I use a gamepad the Logitech Wingman Extreme....tis sweet!
-
big deadzone? huh? if anything the deadzone is a little too small for me.
-
Despite what everyone says about Logitechs I have had three of them die almost instantly. Get an Evo Force. Best stick ever for only 80$Cdn.
-
sure, they die instantly if you smash them against a wall....
-
Thing is, if you smash a CH stick against a wall, the wall dies :p (Seriously, I've got a mark in the floor from where I accidentally dropped my Flightstick once. The stick's fine, the floor isn't)

I'm surprised I'm able to control my anger better then people years older then me... :wtf:
