Title: a little help for a new guy?
Post by: elltee816 on July 19, 2007, 02:30:27 pm
hey all, Im new to board. I just installed Freespace using turey's installer but i keep getting error messages when i try to use the fsport. Once the campaign loads up i get an error message that say it could not open warpmap01 or something and then says i can hit OK to break into debugger or hit cancel to quit. I hit OK and another message comes up. Same thing except this time its warpmap02, again i break into debugger. Everything is fine until the first mission actually starts (i skipped the training mission). The mission begins and everything is fine until the Orff jumps in and suddenly the whole game freezes. Ive played freespace 2 before and it was fine, but for some reason i cant get this to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Oh yea, I already installed openAL and I'm not using anything other than generic software for sound.

Are you using OpenGL or DirectX? If the latter, try switching to OpenGL (Launcher, in the Video tab) as DirectX is no longer officially supported and is quite buggy. Also, make sure your drivers are up to date. Those are the usual reasons for the problem you describe.

Same problem with me. Your computer can't read .EFF files. WCP crashes everytime it has to display the warp effect on my comp.

That's almost certainly the problem. Someone with more experience than me can give you the answer.

Have you got Enable jpg and tga textures ticked in the launcher (Features tab->Graphics)?

I do have Enable jpg and tga textures ticked in the launcher, but the problem still persists.

GTCv Lysander: Iblis now coming into view, firing all guns
:welcomegreen:

Mabye the files are corrupted.. you may want to download FSport manually, extract them... try again.

I actually recommend you, next time, to download everything manually... Turey has limited bandwith...

To be exact, I think the Warpmaps are corrupted. (They are most surely, as nothing jumps except for the orf.

I'm pretty sure that graphics card is below the system requirements for FSO.  You need at least a Radeon 7000 or any Geforce card for it to work.

32mb? It sounds pretty old. Find a card that supports HTL. I really recommend this if you're going to play modern games. There's no way around your problem other than buying new hardware.

That might work. I have no idea how well STL mode would work though. It might crash a lot.

Yet another thing that is going to improved in 3.7

Software Transforming and Lighting :wtf:?

And by " :wtf:" you mean "How could he not know what that means?" or "WTF is it?"

Well if you know the H in HTL stands for hardware it shouldn't be hard to figure out what the S means. :D
