Lothberg's 40 gigabits-per-second fiber-optic connection in Karlstad is believed to be the fastest residential uplink in the world, Karlstad city officials said.
In less than 2 seconds, Lothberg can download a full-length movie on her home computer —many thousand times faster than most residential connections, said Hafsteinn Jonsson, head of the Karlstad city network unit.
Imagine playing a online shooter with that internet. :p

Much quicker than my LAN connection :p.
It's to bad you would get to the point at which it didn't help.
-
Does virgin media provide these internet speeds?

The internets are not like that truck they're like that series of tubes
-
my network prof likened tcp/ip packets to a big truck. You have the header (cab) that tells the entire packet where to go, and then you have the payload (trailer) that contains all the stuff you want.
-
Apparently your network prof's explanation > a US senator's explanation.
-
Think I will have to move from Gothenburg to karlstad or maybe just wait a few months until the 100Mbit connection is extended to my house

Ah don't look at no poen 'cuz thuh BAHBUL tails me nawt to!
There's an obvious question that nobody's asking: where are the servers that could fully exploit your giant-ass connection? A 40GB/s transfer speed is purely theoretical.

To the subject though, can computers copy 80 Gb of data to their hard drive in 2 seconds?
Perhaps my computer is really crappy - only has 1/4 of that memory.
-
I'm not sure. Maybe if the internet is powerful enough, it could.
-Stares at everyone else-

rofl...internet faster then computers.

They're in love.
Ahhhh.

-edge away from kara and haloboy-
I don't think that an internet that is more powerful than the computer will make a difference. IMO, if you're computer can't handle it, no point getting it.

You could make the same argument against people who buy giant 4WD tanks or high-octane supercars and drive them entirely in urban, stand-still traffic. As with the cars, the answer lies in what's known as 'small penis syndrome'.

IIRC, max HD data transfer rate = ~66 MB/sec, as limited by RPM & sector's physical size. The new vertically-spaced sectors that are coming out should double that to ~120 MB/sec, I believe. No, I'm not smart enough to figure that out. I got if from Scott Mueller's books.

UltraSCSI 640 can transfer at 640MB/s. That said, it's not as if most home boxes are going to use SCSI any time soon. And even that isn't up to your 80Gb/s lark.

....What's the max data transfer rate of PC3200 DDR?!?
