Title: Best Screenshots Ever!
Post by: jr2 on July 20, 2007, 05:44:42 pm
Now that we've gotten the spam out of our systems, carry on...  (I don't have any shots on this computerr... not sure if I've got any elsewhere, either.  When I see a good shot, I'm like AWESOME!!!, I'm not too keen on searching for the F10 or Print Screen Keys :p )

I think cool screenshots would be:

The Belisarius getting beamed (got a screenshot of that one)
The Collussus getting beamed
The Lysander getting beamed
The mara being chased by alpha 1 getting beamed by a capship beam beamed at another capship's beam.
Alpha 1 getting beamed
Sathanas in front of alpha 1 warping out. (Got one of those too)

yeah, i took a look at it and decided to make a slightly better one. this one is SCP only, it uses hi-res effects and scp-only beam options.

Title: Re: Best Screenshots Ever!

i wonder why they just made it a trail? was the beam version too low res, and if they implemented higher-res beam effects everyones computers would slow down (this is the era of voodoo cards, remember?)

The beam code wasn't done yet. It's a FS1 artifact.

Press the "Print Screen" or "Prt Scn" or "Sys Rq" button whenever you have a likely shot, see what happens.  Check for the screenshots in your screenshots dir.  It won't crash I don't believe, prolly just hang for a sec.

It's not dumb. It's pretty cool. Watch how I dissect that name:

In the cutscenes, Bosch's name is sometimes shown as "Aken H. Bosch." I have theorized, based on this, that Bosch's full name (and title) is:

Admiral Aken Hieronymus Bosch. Hieronymus Bosch was some whackjob who painted people having trumpets being shoved up their asses and stuff (apparently symbolizing sin and moral failings).

The one in A3? It's not that good. There's some polar distortion and the textures don't tile properly at places. But it's pretty.

Well, I didn't need his middle initial to know who he was named after. Seriously, Admiral Bosch and Admiral Petrarch?

The Stalwart, for some reason, decided to turn toward the incoming Shivan cruisers, fly through the wreckage, through the node, and forward a couple hundred meters before realizing its mistake and slowly turning back toward the Colossus.

EDIT: I just checked the mission. There's a waypoint called "Behind the node". Fitttingly, it is behind the node. The event "Turn you silly bugger" apparently doesn't trigger fast enough. The Stalwart will be 711.7761189367101629645834788795 meters through the node before the event is triggered and the ship turns.

Huh? No, I meant that a character named Bosch could be a coincidence, but with a character named after the ancient scholar there's no way that's possible.

babylon 5 payed full attention to the laws of physics, and beams only caused explosions when they hit a reactor. but that never caused 10 explosions in random places of the ship, followed by the ship splitting in half, vaporizing, and releasing a blue shockwave.

You fool! Realism is boring! There are video games because we want video games! there are explosions because we WANT explosions!!!!
Title: Re: Best Screenshots Ever!
Post by: jr2 on August 20, 2007, 03:27:14 am
Well, I've always imagined the reactor to be the main power source, (ofc) which powers all other power-consuming devices on the ship (obviosly).  However, the reac prolly can't spool up / down to aweful quickly (modern ones can't), as well as not being able to dump excessive amounts of energy at once.  Hence, you have capacitors, for two reasons:  One, to cover short, high demands of energy by such devices as beam cannons and (where applicable) shields.  Two, to serve as a backup in case the reac or power distribution unit has a hiccup.

Now, as a side effect, when everything goes down the tubes, and these capacitors short out, you get some nice explosions.

Oh, and don't try this at home (unless you are foolhardy like me and my brother):  Take a disposable camera with a flash, and after you're done with the film, open up the case, pull the circuit board out, stick a battery inside, charge it up, and short out the capacitor with a butter knife.  Keep in mind that if you short it out with your skin, you will prolly get a small 3rd degree burn, like my brother did.  XD  (I was always more cautious.)  Oh, and I'm not responsible if the capacitor blows up, or you short yourself out and get a third degree burn, etc, etc... I'd wear gloves if I was squeemish.

Hey guys,

I'm trying to get screenshots of some fighters in the middle of a dogfight. Unfortunately, it is a little bit difficult to get your  fighter in the light location to get a good shot, especially if you turn to HUD off.

Instead, I'm trying to get one by attaching the camera to one fighter, and then following it through the fight. Unfortunately this always leaves the centered fighter with the targeting indicator (red or green box) around the ship. If I turn off my targeting subsystem to make the box go away, the camera jumps back to my ship.

Does anyone know of another way to get good screens of fast-manouvreing fighters? Or at least a way to keep the camera centered on a ship, but turn off the targeting indicator?

Cheers,
Energiser

A Colossus with overdriven reactors opening up an 8 beam broadside on a Sathanas (7 are shown firing at once, 1 other cannon opened up a few seconds after).  One more reason why the GTVA needs to replicate BFReds ASAP  ;7

I pretty much set them up, when I play a mission, if I notice there's any cool part or battle on it, later I replay it and try to set myself in the best position to take them. Sometimes, if it's really cool, I play it more then once and take them from different positions.

That shot with the Hecate (my first post in this thread) for example, played that one more than I care to count just to take that one. ;) It aint easy but I like doing it.

Why are the oceans green? Looks like RGB/RBG value swap of some kind somewhere down the line...

That planet is supposed to look like this:

...if you want a proper version, PM me and I'll see if I still have one around. It definitely shouldn't look like the oceans are taken over by blooming cyanobacteria. :ick:

Oh, and for remaining on topic... some appreciation for the Awesome Model in Awesome TC:

It's cleared up, and since it was intentional change I've got nothing against it.

I just remembered that there has been some unintended colour swaps before (beige Minbari Sharlins, anyone?) so I wanted to find out what this was about.

It definitely doesn't look bad green, it was just unexpected. :)

I don't know.

What do you have in mind? BMP? 'Cause I can't think of a better format than TGA for initial screenshots. It saves all the quality there is available in the game-rendered image. And it's relatively easy to open up the image(s) and save them as 85-90% quality JPEG's, or PNG's... or even faster and easier to find a batch converter.

I really wouldn't want FS2_Open to save screenies in any other format than TGA. :p

That vessel there, is the Shiamak, from the old Inferno campaign. One of the best carriers out there in Inferno, next to the ACa Akrotiri and the GVCa Tanen

OH and I love the Star Trek crossover picture, exactly what I would have done with the Enterprise (presuming it is). I believe that model was converted from SFC 3... It reminds me of when I pwn with Shivans in the game Star Trek: Armada 2 with the FS2 mod created by Ultimate_Dragon.
