My first Max render. Was made from tutorials and pure guessing  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)
Took me a whole day of messing to make it  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
I need to learn to do nebulas in Max.

Use a background noise map, with a perlin marble in the black part.  It's actually very easy.

That manticore has a black box that's cutting into the beam glow. Nice beam though.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

Not too bad...I'd add a star effect to the warmup glow(thin, lots of points) and learn the secret ways of the beam render(a mystery to me.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)) And add a noise space warp modifier to the engines of the manticores, for a little randomness there...looks especially good in animation.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

Well, thx to adobe, my gamma is way messed up, and I can see all the outter edges of the glow, and theres a small portion where a black box is sticking into it.
