Title: Multiplayer connection problem
Post by: Frasc0 on July 22, 2007, 10:35:23 pm
Hey!  I've got this problem:

Install FS2 complete version for multiplayer gaming and get the following message: "You have selected TCP/IP connection for multiplayer FS, but TCP/IP protocol wasn't detected on your machine."   Or something like that.

So, I'm usind an IDSN connection, WInXP and haven't the foggiest idea of what happens.  You ask any other details you need and I'll check out.  Thanks for help.

The only time I've seen that is when I've had two copies of FS2_Open running at the same time by accident.

You may want to try changing the option in the network tab to modem or T1 and see if the problem persists. I remember hearing of it fixing similar problems.

By any chance, are you forcing a local port through the Launcher?

I got the same error, albeit in a different situation - playing around with Hamachi at the time. No clue if it'll help you though.

No clue as to how I can help you then. :doubt:

No, don't force ports. I got the error when I did that.

Do you have the file fs2open_pxo.cfg in your Data folder? The Retail's folder.

Hang on a sec. You're using retail not FS2_Open? Have you turned off PXO from the Multi Options menu? PXO won't work any more because Volition took the server down years ago. Your only option is to run FS2_Open or play IP games only.

No, I was trying IP game directly with a partner.  PXO disabled, yes.  And no, I'm not using retail FS2_Open... Not sure what that means either...

:welcome:

Check out Turey's Installer (not to fix the problem, but to upgrade the game with better graphics, etc.. might fix the problem too, IDK, but your friend would also have to update... but that's no prob because the update leaves the old version intact so you can still use it).

Hmm, just thinking, have you both upgraded to the 1.20 patch?

Good enough.  I'll try it as soon as I've a chance.

Yes, we were at v1.20.
