Title: Pirate Asteroid Base - Question
Post by: CaptainX on July 23, 2007, 12:46:28 am
Greetings all.

I downloaded Trashman's Pirate Asteroid Base v1.1 from Hades Combine. Several threads in this forum mention the interior of the asteroid, and that you can fly into it.

However, there is a door blocking the entry point on the version that I downloaded. Is there any way to fly inside the base? Am I missing some obvious way to get them to open the doors?

I'm curious to see the inside of the base, unless for some reason it's not there anymore.

Well who the f... nevermind.

I'll just go blow up the door to my own base to leave.  :hopping:

Sarcastic remarks aside, I like the base :D

Hehe it's a simple fix really... just set the door subsystem to 0 in Fred, and viola, no door.

Now comes the fun part... sticking some pirate fighters in there and seeing if they actually use the exit or just bounce off the walls like a bunch of ping pongs.

Or better yet, stick a cap ship in there. It would make a great conversation piece for the pirates... "Yeah, capturing the cruiser was the EASY part..."

 :wakka:

I put 15 fighters in the base and then went in... they just bounced around. Might be the funniest thing I've seen in FS2.

Imagine a big glass jar with a bunch of angry bees in it, and you'll get an idea of what it looked like.

Did you get the Behemoth textures to go with the AstBase? If not, most of the interior's invisible.

Technichly, if they lauch from the internal fighterbay their paths SHOULD take them out outside...unless tehy are interrupted...but otherwise, they're not that bright

Hm..I think a Aeolus might fit trough the door.

Oh well...it IS a small pirate base...doors are big enough for transports and small freighters.

You can allways scale it up a notc

The only base I made that actually has a cruiser bay is the Whitehall...alltough that bay is all but detailed...hm...now that the detail boxes are here, I might add some detail into the bays....

Nope.

Once I finish the Thunderbolt, Lightbringer, Redeemer & Hedetet MABY I'll have time for the Demon then.
Or maby I'll do it ... I dunno..I work on what I feel like doing...

I can see most of the interior, the towers and such.... I downloaded the 1.1 version from Hades Combine... does that include the textures?

I hadn't tried to have them launch from the internal bay, I just stuck 'em in there at random

The Whitehall might the THE most impressive item I have seen so far for FS2. In my planned campaign, it'll only be featured in a few sectors (three that I can think of right now) with GTVA planning to build more in the future.

One small request I'd like to make.... could we get a model of a Whitehall station under construction? I'd love to have that model in a sector somewhere showing that it is in progress.

In fact, I'd love to have a shipyard model showing some ships under construction... but I don't know how difficult that would be to do, I haven't done modelling.

Right now, I'm playing through the Derelict campaign, so my personal mission work is being intertwined with that, so it's not going as fast as it normally would. The storyline is quite intriguing thus far.

By the way, one other question... for my planned campaign, I changed the tech database descriptions of a lot of ships I downloaded to match with what they would actually be used for. Most of the stuff I downloaded is TrashMan's. Do you guys think this would bother anyone? If I released the campaign to the public, I'd have the proper credits and such in the readme file... but I don't want to step on anyone's toes, either.

That wouldn't be too difficult to do...it's just a matter of cutting off a part of the ship and putting some grider structure there...
Once can then add "fake" griders with just simple plains textured with an invisible texture (aside from a few griders on them).
I used that technique to make the hole in the Legion hulk and works great...

I might get around to making your request...was planing to take a look at the Whitehall to see if anything needs improvement anyway...

One more of Trashman's models used in my Mod.  :D
This thing is just great for innovative mission design.
