Its a pain to do it to every ship...
-
If you're using retail, you can't. You're stuck with ship by ship sexping. f you're using SCP, you can either check the "All ships beam freed by default" box in the mission specs (Shift-N) or use when-argument, every of.
-
I was bug- er... asking... kara about adding multiple ships to *-free-all and *-lock-all and he said it looked pretty easy to do. So it may appear in some future version of FRED. :)
But in the meantime BW's suggestions are good too.

Wait a sec.
Whats teh difference between retail and SCP?
I downloaded the CDs, mounted, and installed the 3.6.9 exe and launcher.
What do I have?
Is there a a way to get the other version?
-
You have FS2_Open. Don't run FRED, run FRED2_Open instead. Many more features.

It was actually so easy to do I forgot I did it and didn't commit it. :D
It will be in CVS soon.

"copy", "add paste" and ajust the shipname if you ain't got SCP...

Retail is short for the retail version of Freespace 2 - that is the one you where able to buy in a shop 6/7 years ago
SCP (short for "Source Code Project") is simply refering to the versions of FS2.exe and FRED.exe that were created after the source code was released - SCP-releases support a lot of new features
I downloaded the CDs, mounted, and installed the 3.6.9 exe and launcher.
the CDs contain (most certainally) retail but with installing 3.6.9 and the launcher (6?) you got yourself SCP

... without the media VPs, it looks like... check out Turey's Installer in my siggy. That will give you medavps + a whole lot more.
-
Then why do some mods work with retail and some with SCP if SCP is basically retail with the launcher and the new exe?
-
The new exe has new features. Including support for better graphics, via the mediavps. ;7
-
Well then, if I have the SCP version, where do I go to get beam-free-all for all ships?
If I use Turey's installer, should I install the retail core and other stuff again?
edit: Ah, I found the beam-free-all for all ships.
Thanks.
But what do I do to get all the eye-candy from Turey without having to download retail core, etc? Will the new stuff be compatible with my current installation?
-
Yup... just point the Installer to your current directory. (It defaults to C:\Games\FreeSpace2, click on "Next" to keep it this way, or click on the "C:\Games\FreeSpace2" to change the location.)

Since the SCP team is trying to preserve backwards compatibility, anything that works for retail should work with any SCP version. If a campaign is labeled as a campaign for retail, that is more to mention that it is compatible with retail FS2, not that it is exclusive to retail FS2. On the other hand, if a campaign/MOD requires a specific version of the SCP, it is likely not compatible with retail or other versions of the SCP.

Then whats the point of Inferno R1 and Inferno SCP?
-
I frikking told them it was frikking confusing!!! Snail! Come hither and bless us with your Inferno revelations!
-
Hmmm. I sense much confusion here.
1) Any SCP install has Retail included. SCP installs on top of a retail install, not instead of it.
2) Turey's installer is capable of installing just the missing SCP elements on top of an existing retail (or SCP) install. Just run it and it will update.
3) The SCP maintain compatibility with retail FS2 but not necessarily its mods. Although staying compatible with FS2 mods is important to the SCP so is fixing bugs. One of the changes the SCP made was to tighten up the parser so that stupid table errors didn't cause bugs and crashes later on in the game. This had the effect of breaking a few retail mods that had errors in their tables which retail allowed to pass without comment. IIRC Inferno SCP fixes a bunch of those errors and adds new SCP specific features to the mod.
