He seems like a standard internet person now though though... kinda sad... kinda nice
What did Dave B have to say when he was here... I seem to be having problems finding his user in the member section
-
He hasn't been on since 06.
-
Maybe akenbosch is takashi's other personalty? like his alter ego or something.

Aww, so I'm guessing all the developers are gone. Maybe someone should send an email to Volition telling them there are still fans of Freespace.
-
They know, they're the ones that released the source code.
-
Plu, Goober got an email from Dan Wenz (I Think) not two weeks back about the Vasudan language.
-
That, and there's the original uncompressed music tracks that he also took the time to dig out on his own time. So they know, and even help occasionally :) They just don't frequent the forums (anymore).
-
Or simply browse as guests :)
If I was a developer in their position, I'd be happy to just sit and watch this 8-year old code blossom into it's next generation, they've done their part with the code, and I'm sure it's fascinating just seeing what people are doing with it now.
-
Or maybe they are hiding within our ranks, searching for a time to strike and take over the forums!
On a serious note, are the original developers for Freespace still even in Volition? That company seem to have suffered alot of hardship. Last time I checked, they were working with THQ.
-
Volition is doing fine, much of the Freespace team still exists, though spread more thinly, but they have always stated they'd like to be given the go-ahead for FS3 one day. Whether that would be on console or not is a whole other discussion, the gamer in me says 'No', the 'me' who knows where the wind is blowing says 'Most likely, Yes.'
It's Interplay that fell, and they were distributors, not developers, FS2's development team are still largely all still around.
-
Id like the cutscenes to be remastered.
Maybe if they give us the raw files and a computer from 2007 can reprocess them to better resolutions?
-
amybe the can give us the original person/alien models they used in making the mainhall/head ani files so we can make our own!
but we'd probably need MAX...
-
I haven't talked to the Volition guys in years but they do know that the community is out there and they do talk about whats going on. I remember when I visited the Volition offices years ago that they were impressed with what the community had done to date with the ship mods and new models being produced. I doubt they are as active in following whats going on but they know still we're out here.

Am I correct in remembering that you only had 1700+ posts a few weeks/months ago? I remember seeing this in the age topic.

Me?
-
Yes, you.
I looked at your postcount in the age topic and it said 1,700 something posts.
-
IceFire's been here forever, you're probably confused.
-
he hardly posts compared to other memebers here, so im suprised.
-
You post too much compared to other members here, takashi. Just because he doesn't post often doesn't mean he hasn't been here awhile...:wtf:
-
Are you really Takashi? Nobody will care, unless you start to do stupid stuff.
-

He posts more than twice the amount that I do every day.
:jaw:
-
yeah, but at least he isn't like takashi.
-
takashi is a jerk.
ps: im a talkaholic...it carries over in posting.
-
Why do you share a PC with Taka? Are you his brother? Co-worker? Spouse?
-
brother. co-modder. arch enemy.
-
Jason Hayes, the Technical Art Director from Volition, wrote an article in this month's Gamedeveloper magazine (entitled "The Code/Art DIVIDE" in big hunking huge black letters, for some strange reason) detailing their Technical Art organization over at Volition to serve as an example to other companies. I'd say they're doing pretty good (the article, unfortunatly, is exceedingly boring ).
I love DaveB's custom title :D
-
WHEE!!
-
Spouse?
PLEASE! MY nightmares don't need adding to!
-
Yes, you.

If you tally my actual post count from the beginning we're well into the many thousands of posts. We did change it so that the off topic general discussion areas don't count towards the post tally and so my number probably dropped a few thousand there too. But I have been around since the very start if thats what you want to know :)
-
You guys should praise IceFire, he's probably the only one who's talked to some of the :v: devs.
-
No praise needed here. The Volition guys were really great people to deal with...they were very open to what we as fans wanted to do and hear from them. We organized IRC chat sessions (this was 1998 folks), e-mail interviews and question and answers, and they were even nice enough to allow a few of us to come and visit their offices in Champaign IL. That was a truly eye opening experience...I even had the pleasure of visiting twice. You really get a sense of what it is to be a part of a game development team and the kind of hours and dedication that are involved.
Its also rare that a company such as this would badger their publisher into a point where they would be allowed to release the games source code to the community. When I got the first e-mail in my inbox that something like that might happen I was truly floored. I think I needed a bucket to contain my drool...I'm not a programmer but I had a pretty good idea of what might be possible. And here we are...we're getting close to 10 years of FreeSpace.
-
I thought that Nix was also in contact with :v:?

And it just keeps getting better.
