I found one called "FoW", but it doesnt work.
Are there any good ones? Especially ones with cruisers/corvettes/destroyers/juggernauts?
-
What do you need?
-
Anything that works with the current FS2 ships.
If there is more than one pack, i would hope they are compatible with each other.

FOW pack? Elaborate..I belive I put a gigantic ship pack out some time ago but the ship in it were bound to work...
http://www.hades-combine.com/web/hosted/fow/TerranShipsV.rar - thats 18MB worth of ships
-
I tried that. I made a folder called "fow" and in a FRED shortcut, i stuck
-fredhtl -mod fow,mediavps
That didnt work.
What do I do to get it to work?
-
ERm..that pack contains only models..not TBL entries...
http://www.hades-combine.com/web/hosted/fow/ShipTBLEntries.txt
I can't recall if ALL the ships are in this...jsut plop it inside your ship.tbl...but carefull...watch the ship limit
EDIT - weapons are missing to boot... You might want to try downloading my weapons pack from Hades-combine...should work...
-
I dont have a ships.tbl or a ships.txt.
I do have a ships.tbl in another mod folder.
I have no idea what you are talking about. Ships? Tables? Weapon packs? what?
-
You can put a ships.tbl or weapons.tbl inside inside a Data/tables folder INSIDE the folder with the mod VP ... OR...inside the same folder in your MAIN FS2 DIRECTORY..the later will ALLWAYS work as it has precedence over everything else..
As for the ship.tbl and weapons.tbl itself..well, you can extract it from the sparky.VP using the VPView........or get it somewhere else..
I got both tables uploaded but they're not retail...they have a lot of ships and stuff in them that would prolly give your FSO headaches trying to sort it out
-
So wait, I need to get my current ships.tbl and then add those codes in there?
wtf? I dont understand a thing.
what if I make a new ships.tbl with the new data? will my old ships still be there?
-
Basicly you got it right.
You get a standard ship.tbl and add the ship fomr the text file in it and then place it in the Data/tables directory.
The game will only show the FIRST 130 ships inside your ship.tbl file (that is untill 3.7 gets out..then you can have 300+ ships).
-
I made a new ships.tbl in \ships\data\tables and added -mod ships, mediavps into the FRED shortcut, but now I get an error that says
Error: Can't open model file <>
File:J:\src\cvs\fs2_open_3_6_9.final\code\Model\ModelRead.cpp
Line: 1902

edit:
Ah, so I need to add the code to an existing tbl instead of making a new tbl with just the code. Where do you suggest I look for a clean ships.tbl? I dont know how to "extract" from the .vps already there.
Do the mediavps have conflicting files with this?
-
Ooo...I hate that error... something is wrong with the tables.
I cna get you a clean ship.tbl...hold on...

I just installed this like a regular mod
http://hades-combine.com/web/index.php?ind=downloads&op=entry_view&iden=160
and it works.
It just as a .vp and a readme.
Why doesnt it have a tbl insertion?
-
Becouse it probably has a .shp-tmb file inside the VP...something I didn't add to my VP...sadly..
But you cna use that method too...basicly make a txt file, make it look like this:
#Ship Classes <----this has to be on the begining of the file
*** <------- ship info goes here...copy/pase the entries from the .txt file
#End <------ending the file
Save this file as something like ship-shp.tbm and put it in the data/tables folder and everything should work wihtout messing with the ships.tbl
you should probably addd a file for each ship naming it accordingly, but I think you cna do it for all ships in one go.
You don't have to do it for hte Orion and Heacte tough - the models in the mediavp are mroe detailed (but my Orion has 30 turrets :) )
-
How did you get your orion to get 30 turrets/
I installed an orion re-done mod, and now my Shivan warships are all black.
-
Hamanos Orion Phase 2?
I woudn't know about that or why your shivans ships have all gone black.
As for your question I made my mid-range version of the Orion and simply gave it more turrets for some better anti-fighter defense.
With a -ship.tbm you should be able to get all the ships in-game without messing with the ships.tbl file
But you have to be aware of the ship limits! A total of 130!
-
130 different kinds of ships in the .tbl or 130 on the field at a time?
-
130 different kinds of ships in the tbl, basically everything including cargo containers, turrets, beacons, the like.
-
nukemod!
-
Nuke, since you popped in with that inspiring comment ( :p ) please explain to me how to use Nukemod to overcome 130 ship limit??? Iz still noob lol (kidding)...
If I want to add new entries instead of simply highjacking the ones you made, do I need to actually delete ships. If so, can I delete standard ships FIRST before going to the modded entries (like pirate etc..)
Or are the tbm files the unfortunate victims I should trim first?
Yes for as long as I've had it I still don't know how to mod the damn thing (3.6.9) correctly yet. :D
But then again, I have never been politically correct in modding!

the ship limit is 200, I think.
-
Inferno builds have a limit of 300, IIRC.
-
god damn thats an ugly background, whoever did that sucks :D
nukemod will never help break the 130? ship limit, the thread title just called for a shameless plug on my part. infact nukemod puts the game a few ships over the limit, so i had to include a slightly stripped versions of the standard ships.tbl. some stuff such as the orion varients and the sjd sathanas, stuff that wouldnt be missed, was removed so that i could add a few more ships.
are they still doing inferno builds? i only ask cause i dont think ive seen one in a very long time.
-
ok so for TC and other type modding simply GUT the standard ship table, modify the species tbm, and then create teh various X-ships.tbm's then correct?
Last time I tried that (minus the species part) things got "Messy" and then CTD ensued until I played nice and restored Nukemod to default files... :D
Crosses fingers!
