Title: Random mission issues
Post by: Kazan on July 24, 2007, 08:22:17 pm
Anyone else expiriencing random problems with missions - random sexp failures, random loadout issues (ie ships wrong type, etc) and other strangeness like this?

I've noticed that newer builds do something strange with ship selections. If you just go straight from the briefing to the mission, you get the default loadout. If you hit ship selection, it tries to give you the same ship you used last time. I haven't looked into this much, but that's what I've seen.

Nevermind then. I didn't notice it until recently.

random loadout issues (ie ships wrong type, etc)

I've had a problem sometimes though, when playing missions through the simulator (also in campaign?) that I get the loadout that was in the last mission (Wrong ships, wrong weapons, wrong choices). When this happens, I resave the mission file to solve the problem (it resets the loadout to the default).

The strangest occurrence of this type was when I was issued a Shivan Comm Node at the Ship Select screen.

How do you fly a Shivan Comm Node?  What weapons does it have, besides the swinging arms?  That'd be a fun way to dogfight.  "I got a lock on him. I got a lock on him. I got a-!!!" *WHACK!*

And if you swittch campaign (I mean, switch pilots - one pilot plaing Feerspace 1 campaign, another pilot playing...oh, let's say Awakenings) you get whatever ship and loadouts the LAST pilot had.

I played the FS1 campiang a little (up to the capturer McCarthy mission) and then switched piltos to play a little awakenings..I was surprised when in a bombing mission I started with a Valkyries..and it's ALL I had to select...had the re-start!

did you submit a bug report for taylor to fix in his new pilot code?

Is that with every mission or are you using a test mission?

Cause I swear I had a bug one day in BtRL where all the wrong ships appeared in the loadout (In both release and debug builds). I resaved the mission and it worked. When I compared in WinMerge the only difference was the last modified date.

I didn't have time to test so I rarred up both versions and came back to it a month later. To find nothing wrong with either mission. :wtf:

Yarr.  The player's last loadout is saved in the campaign file, and is always restored when he replays the most recent mission.  When he plays a new mission, or a new version of the old mission (as determined by the modified date) the loadout is wiped and reloaded.

Taylor's new pilot code will fix this, but it's a rather significant gotcha to watch out for.  (It's also a problem if you're testing a mission you're FREDding, and you're using a non-default loadout, as the loadout will be reset every time you save the mission.)

This happens to me every now and then too. You can still hit the reset button in these situations and it will typically fix everything.

Well the odd thing is that I got this in the Techroom and none of the BtRL SP missions feature a Viper MK II. The last mission I had played was using the same loadout.

Whenever I get that problem, I just click the reset button on the side of loadout. But random sexp, never saw that before. I think Transcend uses the "no (de)briefing" option?

no breifng is usualy use din missions when the FREDer doesent want you too know what your flying/give you no choices (usualy for plot reasons). i highly recomend removing it if your getting the messed uo loadout bug (the same with the red alert bug. remove red-alert.)
