Tachyon copied nearly every damned thing from FS2.
The interface.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Tach_starbase.jpg
The dualing on different lasers and dual-firing missiles. The Afterburner not lasting long and weapon power recharging the same way. Power management the exact same way as FS2...
But one thing it had that FS2 didnt was sliding.
You could boost to maximum speed, hold Q and you would use no extra energy and keep sliding in specified direction at specified velocity forever as long as you held Q. So, if someone was chasing you, you could go forward but aim behind.
Is there a key for that here? I found Alt+G as the key for Toggle Sliding, but it doesnt do anything.
Is there anything to do that?
-
Shivan fighters have a non-zero top speed in the X and Y axis. Vasudans and Terrans don't. Supposedly there are ways to make the player use the X and Y axis but they would involve making fighters with shivan-like atributes.
-
You have to enable the glide in the tables first (ships.tbl or xxx-shp.tbm)
-
Sliding is a non-retail feature. Default FS2 won't have it.
-
Well, I got SCP. What do I need to do?
-
You have to enable the glide in the tables first (ships.tbl or xxx-shp.tbm)
Read the Freespace Wiki as to how to do it, I don't remember offhand where it has to be placed in the tables.
-
FS2 Open, 3.6.x:
* Allows gliding in game, i.e. turning the ship's facing without changing it's direction.
* Syntax: Boolean, yes or no
FS2 Open, 3.7:
* +Max Glide Speed:
o Defines the maximum glide speed if the glide has been enabled
o Syntax: Float
Apparently, its in the game since 3.6.x
How to enable it in-game?
-
Create an empty text file to the mod/data/tables directory (always use mod directories). Name the file for example 'glide-shp.tbm' and copy the contents shown below there. Make sure windows (if you are using that) doesn't screw the file extension. That should enable glide for GTF Ulysses.
glide-shp.tbm
#Ship Classes
$Name: GTF Ulysses
+nocreate
$Glide: yes
;;For more ships keep repeating this (change the ship though)
;;$Name:
;; +nocreate
;;$Glide: yes
#End
-
Whats the key to enable glide then?
-
Alt-G, although I suggest you remap it.
-
Can I slide in multiplayer then?
My friend and I do co-op campaign.
And if I copy and paste that code multiple times in teh same file with different ship names, will it work?
-
not certain, but if both players change their tables, it may let you. however, you will probably get a message about hacked tables. just ignore that.

Foolfromhell,
Please see the website www.FringeSpace.org and the attached forum there.
FringeSpace is the Tachyon to FS2 Total Conversion Mod - which will feature said sliding
and various improvements over Tachyon. The site might look a bit slow in terms of updates,
but were are busy behind the scenes.
That's sort of a long term fix though, in the meantime the other posts
will do what you're looking for most likely.
Might also look into the BtrL mod, as it shares some similar features to Tach.
-
I changed it from Alg+G to I and added that file.
Doesnt help. I stuck it under mediavps/data/tables and selected mediavps as my folder of choice.
Thabjs JGZinv!
-
Did you make sure it was a .tbm? Turn off "hide extensions for known file types", and create a new notepad file. Copy/paste that text into it, save it as glide-shp. Right click it, and change the .txt to .tbm.
-
Also, try changing "$Glide: yes" to "$Glide: YES"
-
Stupid me
I named it .tbl. Lemme try it again.
Edit: It works!
Awesome.
Now I just have to add every ship in there. No one uses the Ulysses anymore!
-
No one uses the Ulysses anymore!
That's not smart. But, seriously, go check out BtRL... you'd like it, and you & your friend can play multi.. I'd suggest playing through the single player campaign first to get the hang of it.
-
Perseus > Ulysses.
Is the btrl full version out?
He's playing FS Port first then part of FS2 till we get to the co-op missions.
Some router problems wont let us play online, so I set up a virtual LAN to play. Works perfectly.
If anyone is interested, use Hamachi. Its a great program.
-
No, it's not, but the demo is... and it's pretty sweet, IMO.
-
I knew the demo was out.
you said
I'd suggest playing through the single player campaign first to get the hang of it.
So, I thought you meant its out.
-
No, but it has a mini-campaign included in the demo.
