Title: My FS CD isnt Working

Okay, I'm running Windows Vista first of all, but I don't think thats the problem, as this just came up recently.
Okay, so I installed Freespace 1.  I played through CD one, got to a point on CD 2, and now whenever I try to start the game with the CD in, FS.exe will be on the processes manager, but wont actually run.  And if I insert it when it asks for it when I select campaign, all it does is freeze.  It shouldn't be the CD, as its new (I just got it about 2 months ago, as I had $5 and was craving for more than my Darkness Rising CD)

There are a few places you can download a copy of the CDs (check here (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,38195.0.html)) to test out if the problem really is the CD.

I've had that happen with my original FS1 disks (1.0, before they shipped with 1.06) on XP. Boot it without the CD, insert CD once i main hall, then insert the CD, then go to the ready room.

Alternatively, if that doesn't work check the version number and update if necessary or as kara said, download a copy.

Mph... why don't you just get FSSCP + FSPort, and play FS1 that way?  Better graphics, and you get FS2 as well.  Use Turey's Installer (see my siggy, use the walkthrough 4 less download time), The FSPort site is down, but this (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,42854.msg983901.html#msg983901) should work.

Dont play retail FS1 or retail FS2!!!

No.  Because they're missing a few things in FS port.  For instance, on mission 2 on FS port, you're "Flying through an asteroid belt" But there are no asteroids.  Sad. :(

No.  Because they're missing a few things in FS port.  For instance, on mission 2 on FS port, you're "Flying through an asteroid belt" But there are no asteroids.  Sad. :(

There's something you have to enable in the launcher, but I forgot what it was.

Enable jpg and tga textures on the Features tab.
