Title: Question Regarding Background Stars
Post by: MiniSiets on August 03, 2007, 01:05:14 am
So in my FRED missions that I've been making, I noticed even when I max out the total number of stars I can have on the map, they're still only half as much that appear in the official campaigns. I want my missions to look as detailed and cool as the official FS2 campaign, so how were they able to cram in that many extra stars and detail? I'm assuming there must be different skybox backgrounds included in SCP that place additional stars and detail into the maps and were put into the campaign missions, but I have no idea what type of files they are or where they're located. I would just like to know if this is true, and if so, where they are located so I can use the skyboxes. If not, I would like to know what other way there is to accomplish my goal, aside from just adding more nebulae or something.

I'm not sure, is that a skybox I can use? And are there more than just that? Can you please tell me the Windows directory location of it so that I can use it?

You need to use a .VP viewer to extract the pof and its texture for viewing.

Check The Kaj-Faq :)

I don't want it for viewing, I want it for use in my map. Do I need to extract it in order to use it? And can someone please confirm if there are more skyboxes than that or not?

Sorry, I don't come here very often, so where is the Kaj-FAQ?

(I also saw a skybox of a high-altitude area of a planet over in the 158th Banshee Squadron Forum, where can I get that as well?)

He means my FAQ.

Grab VPView and have a good look through the VPs to see if there are any other skyboxes.

I believe that just one is included.

if your're using the mediavps, just type in starfield.pof in the "skybox" field. if you dont want to use the mediavps, get the .pof and the map from mv_effects.vp using vpview.
