Title: Question(s)
Post by: BloodEagle on August 03, 2007, 06:45:38 pm
Is there a mod that changes the HUD to include a cockpit? If there isn't one, is it possible to make one?

actualy, the HUD panels kinda ruin the cockpit. and turning off jpg/tga support makes other things invisible. anything post-3.6.9 has it on by default, anyway.

so if you dont mind a little work, pof>cob using PCS2 and remove the HUD panels, and reconvert. then use blobal import to get the .pof data back, re-aling the eyepoint to your liking, and THEN use cockpit-shp.tbm

Well... I followed the instructions (correctly I hope) on that website, and the cockpit looked pretty dadgum ugly. There was also a strange distortion in the middle of my HUD, which I'm pretty sure wasn't supposed to happen.

So... to get a cool-esque HUD, would I have to mod the ship itself?

if you want to revamp the cockpit altogether then yes. cockpits are submodels of the main fighter model. i personally dont know why a physical hud is needed or wanted when you have the default vitual hud. i figure this is the future, huds are probably displayed in the helmet.
anyways here's a pic just for kicks, maybe give you ideas or something.

if you just want to revamp the default hud, then you have to crack open the games vp files and tweak the graphics for the hud itself. im sure there is some "know how" on how to do that drifting around in here.

Well, I just like how they look. The type of HUD I'm looking for can be seen in the first (?) Descent game, and in the 'inter-active' Wing Commander movie-esque game.

Descent Destination Saturn:

Wing Commander (insert name/number I can't remember here):

Well, I guess I'll start trying to make one.  :doubt:

you would ahve to leave black spots on the visible cockpit so the HUD would have the appearance of being displayed on the cockpit screens...or wait for the SCP team to implement HUD components that can be grafted onto the ship.
