Title: NEWS : Sabre
Post by: Tolwyn on August 04, 2007, 07:57:13 am
For this weeks update, we would like to round off our presentation of Wing Commander 2 Confed fighter models created by Klavs and highlight his rendition of the Sabre! The Sabre was one of the best heavy fighters ConFleet put into service during the late 2650's, matching well with the Jalkehi and the Gothri. In addition to its dogfighting ability, its attack ability was so commended that a modified torpedo bomber variant was constructed for the escort carrier class. Both variants proving their mettle in the bloodiest of conflict, all Sabres were retired by the Thunderbolt VII and put into active reserve wings and In System security units as their defacto strike fighter-bombers.

The new Rapier is getting an urge to dock right now, maybe they can hook up.

It is astonishing how pretty a model can look like with shine/glow/env effects applied. ;)

I know what a cockpit is. Still, the meaning of your comment eludes me.

I think he thinks its a transparent cockpit.  Unlike all the other saga models

only in the simulator. Sabre/Rapier/Ferret are part of the system security forces and are no longer stationed on fleet carriers by the end of the war.

You can still make your own missions where you can assign them as fighters to fly.

which will require some minor table adjustments via ships.tbm.

I don't think this is accurate. If anything, these designs are all (or mostly - the Ferret is known to be older) newer than the fighters flying off of the Victory in Wing Commander 3. All three of these designs are still front line units at the end of Fleet Action (late 2668/early 2669), mere months before Wing Commander III. That same story makes it clear that things like the Sabre-D upgrades are part of the backbone of the fleet's future plans... and Rapier II variants, at least, are still flying for the Confederation through the Nephilim War.

If the Arrow and Thunderbolt can be consistently upgraded, why not the Ferret and Sabre? Raptors flew in front-line service for decades before WC1.

Thats where all of the books and games together and the inherent need for a sequel to introduce new ships to fly combine to make no sense whatsoever.  But don't try and tell people that :)

umm, why not have them all flyable anyway for the sake of 3rd party missions? :S

because we will need additional tbl entries for that. :)
