Ok so I own the original copies of both FS and FS2 but I honestly know nothing about computers very much. I know i love the games but since Interplay, Volition, and ParallelX went down I have no way of playing multiplayer, getting better graphics, ect. I'm basically stuck with the meat and potatoes of the game. I really want to connect and play multiplayer but I know nothing about this Source Code, very little but enough about FRED and nothing about modding the game or online servers. Can anyone help me at least get onto a game server to play people on FS or FS2?

I wish someone would make a step by step guide to
1. Fixing multiplayer from the retail version and how to get it up and running
2. Step by step explain how to add campaigns like Derelict ect.
3. How to understand FRED better because all the missions i've made the ships never appear as close as i've placed them, basically understand the x, y, and z axis thing better.
Altogether I suck at computers and the first thing that comes to mind when someone says Config. file or Modding or anything is "Huh?" Sorry guys I love this game and these sites are wonderful but I have no idea what i'm doing lol

#1, I'd advise using FS2_open instead of Retail, and then check the MP forum where there already is a link to a step by step walkthrough of how to do it.
#2 is pretty simple:
Step 1: Get Turey's Installer (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,42854.0.html) and run it from your Freespace directory. This will download a bunch of mods, as well as upgrade your Freespace installation to 3.6.9 if you are using an older SCP build.
Step 2: Run the SCP launcher, and go to the "MOD" tab.
Step 3: Click "Select MOD", and pick the folder for the mod you want to play (such as Derelict).
Step 4: Click "Run", and then select the newly available campaign from the campaign room.
Step 5: Have fun.
For campaigns not included in the installer, you unpack them to a seperate folder in the FS2 directory, after which you can select them as shown in step 2-5 above.
#3, you'll have to go into a bit more depth about what is wrong, exactly. Are they appearing in the wrong place when they jump in, or are they there from the start but not where you place them?

For learning how to FRED: the built-in walkthrough is excellent at making sure you know how to do all necessary stuff. I reccomend spending an hour or two building the mission in the walkthrough step-by-step.
