Wanting to help out still, but can't model? We still have plenty of positions open. Modelers are pretty much taken care of for now, however, we still need several key positions to round out a TC, including, but not limited to:
- Effects Artist(s)
- Interface Artist(s)
- Sound Effects
- Music
- Texturing
-
you most buy the full version from trurespace

you most buy the full version from trurespace
Thanks for dropping by, but that's not really pertinent to what I was talking about. If you're referring to TC, I meant total conversion.
Edit: Also, Truespace isn't necessary for modeling, and neither is purchasing the full version. 3.2 is available freely and still capable of making models. There's also Blender, 3ds Max, Wings3d, Sketchup, Solid Modeling applications, etc...
-
What's an effects and interface artist, and what programs do I need to do it? Also texturing, I might like to learn.
-
I believe effects artists do things such as engine glows, shockwaves and explosions, subspace vortexes (or ship-stretching hyperspace jumps), stuff like that.
Interface artists draw up and skin the buttons for the interface, like, the briefing window, the HUD, title screen, and such things.

Thank goodness for torrents. Thank goodness for Kleenex.

Hmm....
Ad-bot?
-
I can do those better then models ya know.

-
That's a pretty cool sun, can you do planets too?
-
yes I can, but I don't have a link. I am not as good at those though.
-
I'll be doing some planets for sure. Probably some other effects too.
-
Hey if someone could point me toward some free progams and tutorials, I could probably throw in a little texturing, interface, or effects art.
If it helps, I already have Photoshop7.

There's a guide to interface art posted in that thread. It's actually written based on Corel Draw and such I believe, but you should be able to get by with Photoshop, or several other free programs out there, like Paint.NET (don't forget the plugins for it if you use that program).
-
i'll try my hand at anything you want me to. :)
-
hello? :blah:
-
audition!
-
Yeah like I said, just pick anything in that list and try it out. You don't need to ask beyond that. Then let us see what you came up with. I'd say drop by IRC but your dad would probably shat himself before you got to have that installed.
-
yup!
Edit: music sounds kool. what does it entail?
-
Either finding free music or making some yourself that would fit the many situations in the game we will need music for.
-
Uhhh.......... i know most people probobly wont want to listen to the same-old SW music the whole time, but i have the OSTs from every movie (excluding the holiday special :p ) my favorite tracks are "Throne Room and End Title-Eps.IV OST", and "Battle of the Heroes-EpsIII OST"
Edit: ignore my pimpin new title
-
Edit: ignore my pimpin new title
Why? I think it's very telling.
-
I want a title...
-
From what I can tell you have to be incredibly obnoxious or under the age of 13. Or both.
-
My title should be "hairstylist/barber/bartender/makeup artist/pilot/acrobat/modeler/texturer guy"
-
im 12. but SWs is my oly true love (IM SORRY FS!!!!), i should be ok. just dont gimme anything huge. but i can handle lots of lil things, maybe FRED a lil here and there, ect
-

I can be obnoxious ;7
-
Well I can't give out titles so don't be obnoxious around here. Try a more trafficked thread.
-
can i help or not?
-
Titan, I've already told you what we need. Read my posts.

I might be able to help with some texturing, if i could get my hands on the B-wing, (EDIT: just noticed, B-wing skin is in progress) I'd show you what im capeable of, or you could just google for Star Wars Legacy of War, and look at the shots of the SSD i did :D
-
Yup, Turambar already started the B-Wing, but Tempest has a ton of meshes that haven't even been UVed yet. We might be able to get you a couple to mess around with. Unfortunately, google isn't turning up a lot of pics of that mod, just a ModDB entry with a very limited amount of info on it. I added SSD to the search and came across this SSD page (http://empireatwar.filefront.com/file/LEGACY_OF_WAR_SSD_MOD;63055), I guess that's your texturing job? Or did you do the whole ship? Also, do you have any examples of some finer detail, a smaller ship perhaps? If not you can just show off with some of Tempest's stuff I suppose.
edited for typo

That looks sweet. Anyway, we'll be in contact shortly to see what you're capable of.
-
I actually heard about this several years ago but never got around to finding it. Since you say most of the modeling is being taken care of I think I could help out with music and sound effects, I've got some good equipment and I am currently doing background music for FPS game I'm helping make right now.
-
Excellent! We'll need all the help in those areas we can get. We've already had some other prospects, but the more the merrier. Optimally, all the sound and music in the game would be original work. Whether or not that happens, we'll see. We were discussing the possibility of using some classical music in various areas of the game, since a lot of it is already somewhat Star Wars-ish in the first place.
And also,
:welcomered:
-
I was wondering, even though my main focus will be music, can I still help out in modeling some?
-
Well, there are definitely a few ships laying around left unclaimed, so if you've already got the skills, you're welcome to take a stab at it. We just don't really have the time to train any more aspiring modelers right now.
-
I got some Skillz :pimp:
-
Sound effects are much more pressing then music right now. I'm not sure where our current SFX came from, but they suck. Hi-quality renditions of lasers (as many types as possible) and missile-launch sounds are a must. We can probably invent a few new sounds, but for the most part we'll be sticking to canon.
And we need a texturer, not modellers. We have 3 dedicated modelers, but only 2 dedicated texturers (although Admiral Mackay will possibly bring that up to 3). We've got a LOT of meshes laying around that need to be textured. Those need to be dealt with ASAP.
About the music thing, I disagree that classical music will be appropriate, and enjoy the possibility of having all-custom stuff. Are you familiar with FS2's music format? If we can harness the impressive abilities of the engine in that area we can make the FotG experience just that much better.
-
Are you familiar enough with classical music to say there's nothing appropriate? Because I'm only vaguely familiar with what it has to offer (aside from being free) and know that there are definitely some songs I could fit to many different environments in a game.
-
I Love classical music. That doesn't mean it should go into the game though. It's great to listen to on its own, and COULD be put in for special sequences, but it doesn't usually lend itself to fighting well. Yes, I'm very familiar with it.
-
This may be a dum thing to say, but I'm more than willing to help out with anything that does not involve modeling, texturing, sound effects (basically everything listed in the first post of this thread) because I have no real technical skills with that whatsoever. So basically, if you have problems with continuity or whatever, I'd be willing to help out with that (like research and stuff) or just whatever I can do with general problems to help out
-

I'm sure that there's plenty of fitting classical music out there, probably alot that could actually be mistaken for Star Wars. Unfortunately, it's probably pretty obscure and hard to find. Also, the music itself is free, but if you want an actual recording, you'll have to pay or steal it. If you want to plug the music into a music program and recreate it, that would probably be free.
-
I was actually thinking of having some of my band geek friends in Rolla record some pieces if we decide we wanted to go that route (or band geeks elsewhere, we all know them, and most of them love Star Wars).

You made the LoW SSD! Wow. You are my hero. (except for BrandX)
-
You can make ships with sketchup? What about turrents? There doesn't seem to be any rotater thingy for them.
Also, for the tie fighters and SD, can we download some?
-
turrents?
How?
-
turrents?
How?
Turrets, I think. He wants to know how you can do turrets in Sketchup.
-
he needs to learn how to use a real modelling program.
-
yes and now
but you most buy everything for modelling full version
And, just because:
i want do it for your tester
-
I'd like to help as FREDder in the future. What about it? :)
-
Hi all! I am completely new to this mod, but I think it looks really promising already!
Since I'm not especially good at neither modelling nor texturing (besides that I haven't been doing it for a long time), and I'm very eager to see this mod finished, I thought I maybe could help out with some of the sound effects for it...
...wich leads to a few questions; have you planned using aready existing sounds from other SW-games? (that question might already have been answered somewhere, I don't know...)
Is somebody already working on soundeffects?
However, I think I could come up with some usable soundeffects for explosions, engines and such things...
-
We don't plan to use any existing material, but if we had to sneak some in to prevent delaying a release any longer, it'd be preferable to go straight to the movies first, rather than the low quality game sounds. Anything that's new, original, public domain, etc is preferable. Taking from other games would be a last resort and probably only used for internal testing releases, just to help with the atmosphere.
-
Do you really consider game sounds inferior to sounds coming from the movies? The second ones are integrated with music and, sometimes, dialogues. Do you think they can be extracted easily?
Oh, this one's for Bossk...
:welcomesilver:
Welcome to the HLPBB!!! :D

I see. Is there a list with all the sounds needed or anything like that? I think it would help a bit. Don't know if I can create sounds for e.g. the laser-sound effects, TIE-engines and other very characteristic sounds, but I can do some samples for more universal sounds, to start with.
Welcome to the HLPBB!!! :D
Thanx! ;)
-
You need to take in consideration a normal FS2 sounds table file. FS2 sounds will be replaced with SW ones(like flyby, afterburner, laser shots, explosions).
-
What he said. There are launch sounds, impact sounds, flyby sounds, explosion sounds, engine hums, comm sounds, interface sounds, all that is in the original FS2 sounds.tbl file and would hopefully be replaced with original stuff.
-
Ok, this is what I just came up with, it's four sample sounds for large explosions and engines (from inside the cockpit, i think...): http://rapidshare.com/files/92870282/Sound_effect_samples.rar.html
I think at least the explosion sounds are quite realistic... engines and especially flybys are harder to make realistic sounds for. And have in mind that I have never been doing exactly this stuff before. :)
-
Well.. I don't know if anyone listened to those samples, but I think I'll stick on making explosionsound for so long.
Or else I could also do voice acting for various species, if that is needed... ;)
-
Oh yeah, I did get around to listening to these but forgot to reply. The engine hums sound a little scratchy to me. The explosions could be usable though, although I don't know if they're very space-sounding.
-
I have some hands on experiance with photoshop, so i can help with textures and whatever, not so good at mapping yet, but if u need help making things look more realistic or need me to make a sample so u can make it into a map, i would be happy to help.
i would also be happy to do some testing.
i also know how do do basic fredding, so if u need some help, i can put together a mission 4 u and then u could touch it up to your likeing...
i would be best in the 2d moddelign area working on textures and such but should you need some help elsewhere... let me know... i am happy to help...
-
I guess a good starting question is: do you have any samples of your work?
-
What you need?
-
Well he probably meant anything you might have already done previously, unrelated to this project. But if you want, feel free to make a Mon Calamari cruiser sample.
