Hello everyone, as the title indicates, I am a NOOB (my apologies). I played the original freespace a long time ago, and loved it. Beat it multiple times, played online, the whole shebang. Of course, my computer didn't have a 3D acceleration feature (and I did'nt have the requisite funds to buy one), so FS2 didn't happen right away. I figured someday down the line, I'd buy FS2. Obviously, that didn't work too well for me. But, last week, I discovered the excellent website here, and was able to download Turey's Installer. It's sweet, FS2 runs perfectly. But, I have a few problems. First off, only the main FS2 campaign shows up. I thought that Turey's downloader downloaded a couple of custom campaigns, but I don't see them. Do I need to move some files around? Or just beat the main campaign? Secondly, if I download custom content, where do I put it? Third, is there a guide somewhere for people to learn how to make custom content? Fourth, what's up with the Hades-Combine website? Seems like they have a lot of great looking custom content there, but I can't access their website.
Thanks for any help you guys can offer, and great job on all the stuff already created!

You have to select the mod in the launcher, and then select it again in the campaign room. Oh, and when you are playing the main FS2 campaign, select the mod "mediavps" to make it look better. Don't use the same pilot for multiple campaigns at once, or you risk corruption (until 3.6.10 comes out). Select the correct flags. (See the end of my walkthrough in my sig.) BTW, the mod for FS1 + ST is called FSPort.
Don't forget that there are several Total Conversions, like The Wing Commander Saga, The Babylon Project, and BattleStar Galactica: Beyond the Red Line.

Playing other campaigns is indeed very simple. Just open the Launcher, select the MOD tab, click Select MOD and then click on a folder of a campaign you'd like to play, for example FSPort. Then, when you start FSO, create a new pilot for that specific campaign and remember to go to the campaign room to select the desired campaign.
If you'd also like to play a user-made campaign with the funky MediaVP effects, create a mod.ini in the campaign folder following the instructions presented in the particular section of Karajorma's FreeSpace FAQ (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/karajorma/FAQ/installingmods.html#multimod). Though I think that the installer should provide you with the proper mod.inis for each campaign. Dunno. Installed FreeSpace with a more complex method.

The Installer does indeed provide mod.ini files for you.

Thanks for the info!
