Title: Odd problem
Post by: gevatter Lars on August 10, 2007, 07:13:15 am
Hi I got an quite odd problem with an internet connection.
The PC is connected via a HUB in a LAN that is connected to the internet. For all other PCs in the network the configuration is working except for one.
This one let me see, copy and work with data stored on any other PC in the network but when I open up a browser (tried IE and Firefox) it loads forever and then says that it hasn't found a connection.

I find this very strange...so does anyone got an idea how to solve that problem?

Try and tell what ipconfig -all gives.

It sounds to me like yout TCP/IP protocols are not set up as they should... Is the system Vista perchance?

Is it just me, or does it sound like his default gateway and/or DNS servers are messed up?  Or am I totally missing something?

Yeah, well... they are part of the TCP/IP config in Windoze control panel.

If it's just DNS server issue, you could obviously try and load web pages using IP numbers only. If it works, then it's only a matter of fixing the DNS problem. If not, you need to fix other things as well.

I asked about Vista because it doesn't seem to be automagically able to get past the router on automatic settings. It finds the internal network all right, and the router answers fine, but as long as you don't actually put the information in manually, it won't detect wide area network at all past the router. Go figure.

It was the DNS. There was a mixup with the numbers....I was so sure that I had it right. Well sometimes you don't see the trees ^_^
Thanks for the help.
