Title: "Mei Iaculatoris Casuri Sunt!"
Post by: Mobius on August 12, 2007, 02:00:10 pm
I have problems with my FreeSpace 2 Open launchers. All of them. They simply crash whenever I click their icons. I click and after 3-5 seconds an error window appears. There apparently are no code related errors, the problem must be about the launchers. FS2 Open, FS2 Open-INF and even BtRL. I'm actually focused on INFA(and I can always run the game by clicking on the Inferno build), so the problem isn't a priority.

What could have happened?

The only common thing between them is the registry and OpenAL installations. If you've done nothing that involves changing OpenAL it's possible that your registry entries are corrupt.

If that's the case you can run Regedit and delete the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> Software -> Volition -> FreeSpace folder.

Must have something to do with my computer failure and general data loss.

I have just deleted that folder, but the launchers still crash in the same way.

If you had no sound card, would it's lack cause a crash, when it expected sound to be there?

My computer no longer has a sound card, it's a miracle I can use the Internet or play FreeSpace. I'm currently trying to solve this problem.

But I chose the "no sound" option in my INF Launcher, if I remember well...and it crashes istantly.

Apparently, I solved the problem. It was caused by a driver "update", supposed to help me in getting a valid audio card back. I have reinstalled my video card and everything seems ok.
