Title: quite strange
Post by: Vidmaster on August 15, 2007, 11:51:17 am
I use Shivans 1.9c Pack and play it daily.

Now suddenly, the TechDatabase is messed up, for all freespace campaigns and mods (aside from the standalone like TBP and BtRL) .
There are only about 20 ships included, from different factions. Ships that are normaly added to the database form the very beginnig are not there.
Additionally, standart voice messages like "great shot" or "afframative" are displayed but not spoken anymore.

I think it started all when I played the "Mystery of the Trinity" (MainFS2 with mediaVPs)

The first problem is probably pilot file corruption. Does the problem go away if you make a new pilot?

Not sure about the second one though.

Is the Shivan pack a VP or single files?

What if you temporary move the files somewhere else and then try again?

Now I'm just a dimwitted little bastard but could there be even the slightest chance that you have a rogue table file haunting somewhere? I'm just deducing that database mess-ups and voice file screw-ups could be caused by some table file that is either in the data/tables folder or in some vp that shouldn't be where ever it happens to be at the moment.

Hmm, check in my sig, under "Posting your FS2 directory contents"  Do that, post here... we should be able to tell if it's a rogue file then, I think.

It was probably a rogue table in which case starting again probably deleted it.

If you install any mods without using the installer make sure you follow the guidelines in my FAQ.

ok, the bug was a corrupted pilot file. I played Inferno, then switched the mod to vps but didn't switched the campaign first. It wasn't found and I selected FS2main of course and that from that point, the whole thing was messed up.  Problem solved: Just don't do this  :doubt:
