Title: 3d Modeling Program
Post by: Shining_Saber on August 16, 2007, 09:58:44 pm
Whats a good 3d modeling program to use?
I tried Wings 3d, loved it, yet didn't like its no animation thing.
I tried Blender, hated it.

So I was thinking, is there anything that controls like Wings 3d, yet has animation?  I want it to have the right click rotate by axis and move by axis things.  Thanks in advance.

Wings 3D is very much a program designed to build simple individual models

Blender is designed to make cinematic quality stuff

You might try Anim8tor if it still exists.

3D Studio Max

See if GMax is still available for free, or use magic.

let me explain how i use the pair:

MAX to make the basic shape of the ship (often reffered too as LOD0)

blender to greeble

MAX to UV map

blender to map the greebles

MAX to set up hierarchy

and then i use PCS2 to convert. long chain of exports/imports, yes this is known to cause mesh errors, but i've found blender imports .3ds well and max is best with .objs.

Juggling eggs weakens them.

OH! i get the point! (im bad with metaphors)

dont jump between prograsm with one model too much unles its neccessary (like X program cant do X, but X program can, so you switch)

I would swear by Cinema4D, but to date I have not discovered a way to get the models into the game.

max has everything. good uv mapping, good mesh tools, animation, rendering, well everything. i can live without a greebel tool. just cause it look cool is no reason to use it. id rather have a nice clean curvy mesh with really good textures.
