This time my Terran Knossos device

It has 8 turrets designed to destroy any hostile vessels going in or out of the gate.

Neat..Don't like the Orion textures though, they don't look great on a curvy thing. Maybe it's just me.

One thing they are Hangers not fighterbays, as they can launch Bombers but that Hanger is way cool! "Scramble Fighters!"

how about something like an iris from stargate, a big metal, or magnetic gate that can open and close, stopping a ship before it can complete its departure. Or just create some sort of internal subspace inhibitor, either way, to block hostile ships.

You could have a ring of beam cannons on potruding structures that are "every other" in a circle, that way the beam fires straight but if it misses it won't hit anything on the far sde...

Fule Tanks! (I just put some in my MOD, thants what made me think of them) Fule Tanks that explode BIG. Just line them up around the node wait till a ships jumps in... fire... BOOM etc

A ring of 80 flak cannon arranged in a ring around the jump in/out point. I'td look hella cool.

I had a idea to make a flak sphere and put 10/15 turrets all over it and put it in a mission good for defending cargo depots from all sides.

Stringing monofilament, monomolecular wire across the node. Just for fun, make it superconducting wire as well, so you can't easily vaporise it. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)
