'bout time, I say.
-
What?
-
interesting...
is it some sort of MPAA snare trap?
-
May you explain a bit more? I don't understand exactly what you mean...
-
I don't think it's a trap; Pirate Bay is sponsoring it now. I can't
talk about this too much provide any links as it is against the rules here. It's one of those things where if you know, you know, and if you don't just don't worry about it. ;)
-
It's a legendary bit torrenting website that went down a few years back due to legal pressure.
But you can't really talk about it any further, as redsniper has pointed out.
/me flashy-thingies bob-san.

So why make the Freaking Thread?Mods please lock this.

To boost my postcount... Oh wait... no.
Because it's good to know. A lot of HLPers used and talked about it back when it was up (at least that's how I remember things) and they might want to use it again now that it's back.

This post fails to make substantive contribution. It displays n00bish tendencies and invite flaming.
So does this post. Delete us both! Quickly!

Stop telling us how to do our jobs - we know how to do it, and none of your "Modz plz lock this k?" posts endear you to us. This is a valid thread, and it's not full of spam. Hence, it stays open.
EDIT: On that note, thread title edited :p

Suprnova is back! Hooray, now I get to waste my time with horrible transfer speeds, fake/incorrect files, malware, MAFIAA trackers, and piss-poor quality rips! Joy! Oh, Suprnova, please don't ever leave me again! I can't stand not being inconvenienced without you!

EDIT: On that note, thread title edited :p
I appreciate the effort, but it really is spelled without the e. :D
-
Changed back :p
-
maybe it's actually a distraction, something to soak up the MPAA's resources.
-
This all seems a little fishy to me... But its probably legit. Still... Just a tad :shaking: Ya know... Like a dead relative knocking on your door or getting on a train that hasn't been in use for 20 years.
-
A distraction? Maybe the MPAA owns it now, and they brought it back to piss people off. People who know what they're doing don't use torrents, and SuprNova is the AOL of torrent indexing. Idiots and douchebags use SuprNova, and the integrity of the Internet has dropped significantly because of its existance.
-
integrity ... Internet
:wakka:

Newsgroups >>>> Torrents
No exceptions.
-
Sure, if you're trying to get the latest Naruto ep or something.
-
...WTF?
I have NEVER been able to find something on torrent networks that I couldn't find multiple sources while using Giganews. That, and the popular stuff doesn't download at 2k/s. And don't forget the fact that your connection doesn't drop because of upstream saturation. Also, good luck being anonymous on a torrent network. MAFIAA can still see you.
Face it, compared to newsgroups, torrents royally suck the big one.
-
Well, I'll just come out and say it: I don't know how to use newsgroups to download stuff. I tried once upon a time (using XNews though) and couldn't quite figure it out. It could be that there was some simple setting or option that wasn't set up correctly, I could have been looking in the wrong groups, whatever. I was able to find and get what I was looking for more easily with bittorrent than with newsgroups, and if that makes me less l33t, oh well.

Scuddie! Shhhhhhhhh! ;)
Right now RIAA seem to have forgotten about usenet. Let everyone keep thinking that it's old fashioned and not worth bothering with.
Incidentally which newsreader do you use? I'm still pottering about with XNews which is frigging ancient but I've never found a client that's free which I like as much as it.
-
No, they haven't forgotten about it, they know they can't do a damn thing about it. If you don't distribute, or download directly from them, they aren't allowed to touch you.
And I use GrabIt (http://www.shemes.com/). It's decent enough to get the job done, and it merges all the headers like most commercial based applications do. But I use it mostly with .nzb and such. Browsing large channels takes way too frikkin long to download the header data, and some systems can't handle the vast amount of memory required to index it all.
-
I looked into to it; it appears more trouble than anything else... apparently you must find an NNTP server or somesuch...?
