Title: Alright, time to be useful
Post by: haloboy100 on August 24, 2007, 02:20:20 pm
Ok then, i've been thinking of contributing to this community one way or another, so i tied a whack at FREDing, making a campaign. That, is going very, very, slowly, with only one mission done. This is because of lack of motivation. Therefore, i have tried something else. Though i really want to be a programmer of some sorts in video games when i get a job years from now, but right now i don't know where to start. Is there any tutorial to programming somebody can direct me too so i can contribute to this community in some kind of way?

Programming outta be out of my league as i am only 14, and i have taken quite a bit of interest in modeling, seeing the kind of things Turambar has done with the x-wing and other people's creations, that has inspired me to take up modeling is programming is too far out of reach (which it probably is, so feel free to slap me, snail, for saying that :)). Again, is there a tutorial i can take for a program that you would recommend? My friend, who models for halo, says wings 3D is really crappy, though seeing the results it seems pretty good.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Try again with FRED, it's easy and intuitive. Don't give up just because of a simple "lack of motivation". Play around with FRED and check some tutorials out...it will help you. :)

I'm extremely stubborn when it comes too motivation...so getting back up on that campaign will require a very, very, big amount of boredom. And due to wing commander 2 and guild wars, there is a certain lack of that.

Playing around with FRED doesn't mean "create a campaign". You can work on single missions. After playing the main FreeSpace 1/2 campaigns and some other campaigns, you should have some ideas. I was inspired after playing the whole single missions package of FreeSpace 2.

i've played nearly every campaign thats been released for the last year, which is why i started on a campaign, inspired by inferno. But i want to know some other ways to contribute if it never succeeds.

I said single missions, a new FREDder can't start with a campaign(unless it is short, like Operation Templar). If you like Inferno, you may wish to create a mission in which you are an EA pilot.

I don't see whats wrong with starting with a campaign; I've bound to learn a lot of experiance by the time it's finished, so i can go back and fix up all the missions so they look not so newbie-ish. I can even re-do a few of them. Knowing that i finished a campaign, i would definetely be motivated enough to do so.

No offense, but you will never finish that campaign. Trust me, start with some single missions :)

that seems rather pointless to me. It took me 2 weeks to think of the story for my campaign. So sitting around for a day or two trying to think of a single mission seems like a waste.

I want to make a campaign myself . But I lack the motivation part  .

Hey haloboy100 , if you're interested in making a player-is-a-shivan campaign with me , just tell me . Maybe we'd manage to start making it .

Of course!

Back where he started ---> Kills newbies ---> Slaughters newbies ---> Back where he started.

LieutenantGeneralMobius ---> Mobius. Back where he started!

Nothing ---> GTI LGM's signature ---> GTSI LGM's signature ---> M's temple of Karajorma ---> Nothing. Back where he started.

Was Goober5000 the one who chose my custom title? He must be a prophet!
