Title: Dies Natalis Sociorum
Post by: Mobius on August 25, 2007, 04:59:10 am
I noticed that, without considering the HLP calendar and the piece of cake near the age, there's not that much the community does when the birthday of a member arrives. Is there a way to set automatized "Happy Birthday" e-mails or even PMs?

You know, Woo's birthday is close...  :drevil:

Automated emails are annoying... But PMs are ok IMO.

Are you sure? Automated e-mails should be easier to program. There are automated e-mails for PMs, there could be automated PMs for Birthdays.

Yeah, but I disabled automated emails for PMs, myself. I find any form of automated email (even notification for posts) extremely annoying. I don't know why.

I agree on saying that automated e-mails for PMs are annoying. But there's just one birthday per year. It can be done I think.

1 more useless message for when I check my my email.

Call it "useless"... :doubt:

Admins! Is it possible to do or not?

It's possible I'd say. But I don't see the point of another pointless automated email.

Feel free to consider it pointless....

I often get a PM or two on my Birthday, which is always nice :)

I got a thread the last year :)

And tomorrow is Woomeister's birthday. Do we have a chance of seeing this HB system on by tomorrow?

instead of worrying if a system can be put in place before his birthday, why dont you write him a personal happy birthday email or pm and send it yourself? it will mean a lot more to him than an automated one from a bulletin board.

You can only imagine how many HB PMs I send. The most recent ones were for... SF-Junky and Charismatic. But there should definitely be an automated e-mail system.

You know, I was going to send a Happy Birthday PM to Woo... :nervous:

You should.

Automatized e-mails could help in bringing some inactive members back. I think it is a good idea.

I never liked automated mail. It would take less than a minute to come up with a short PM yourself- perhaps a birthday PM to every member who has been here for, I don't know, 2-3 years would make sense. If you're just doing this to get old members back, type the emails yourself. Automated emails, no matter how well-intentioned, usually sound like spam.

This kind of reminds me of the whole Welcome Beam speech fiasco.

E-mails are e-mails...the fiasco was probably caused by spamming(easy posts for everyone, since newbies rarely post in General Discussion).

And come on, one e-mail per year...it can't be considered spam and/or something boring.

Ok, sounds good. It might make some of the newer members feel welcome, especially. Which would include myself.

None of the Administrators posted. They're the ones who can decide if automated e-mails for HBs should be activated, not us. :doubt:
