Yes. The Snail is leaving.
I just found out that they decided to block HLP from the server. So I won't be able to access HLP (or GW I think) for basically all the time until next Christmas, and then again until next summer, starting tomorrow. I'll be able to access the internet on certain weekends and possibly Fridays if the library computer is working. Good news: You won't see me. Bad news: INFASA, AIII and MT may be held up because of this.
Oh, they also blocked SG... Basically all the places I go on.

:(
Who are "they?"
-
I found I could sneak past works blockades by using a link in an email (PM notification, for example)........ :nervous:

Who are "they?"
The masters of the school internet.

Well they'll be on to me since I was using my own network for a while to bypass them, but then they found me out.

they
Care to elaborate? ISP, school admins, Chinese internet police, mafia family from Palermo, or perhaps you meant THEM! (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/THEM!_(comics)), THEM (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/THEM_(Marvel_universe)), or perhaps even Them! (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Them!) or Them (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Them_(2006_film)).
...ah, too slow, so your school admins decided to do... WHAT? :mad2:
It's time to call in the heavy artillery, methinks. Before retorting to A-10 CAS flights sweeping those blocks away.
I don't really know what's going on and where, but if its not something too sophisticated, you should be able to enter the forums from, say, proxify.com (http://proxify.com/), and you might also want to take a look at XeroBank Browser (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XeroBank_Browser) which is essentially Firefox with a twist that makes it connect the host server via onion networks that effectively mask IP's here and there, which means that even if HLP/GW server for some incredible reason is blocked by the ISP, it should be circumvented by XeroBank (previously known as Torpark) because the data doesn't really seem to be coming from HLP/GW server. And, the great thing is that you don't need to install XeroBank on your PC so you don't need admin rights. You can run it from, say, USB-stick. Or your home directory, which works somewhat faster.
It's slower than regular browsing, but should work to some extent...
If it's browser specific filter/limitation, you might want to use a portable Firefox (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mozilla_Firefox_-_Portable_Edition) installation without the XeroBAnk's Torpark connection system.
...of course, all this applies on your school's Windows PC's. If they only use Unix, your last best hope would be proxify.com, but I wouldn't hold my breath there. And uploading/downloading files via that would not work (apart from those text files [tables in this context] that can be copy-pasted).
...Why are they doing this?
And don't you have net connection at your home? :nervous:
-
The school internet people.
-
Its not the end of the world, just find a proxy.
-
A challenge! Here is what you do: sneak into the computer lab at night and take all the mice and keyboard cords and switch them to other computers. Also, unplug the network cables. While you're there, you could just install linux/not whatever OS they use on every single computer, too I guess.
Now I don't exactly know how this will help you contact HLP, but it sounds fun.
-
The school internet people.
Ah - campus networks. The regime of today's dictators. :(
All the more reason for me to be a happy camper not to have gon to live in Otaniemi campus... I hear the they in there have "blocked" torrents! :shaking:
-
they
And don't you have net connection at your home? :nervous:
That's what I was wondering. :nervous: Or are you on a university campus-wide connection?
-
on a university campus-wide connection?
Yes. I can prolly only access it when I come back to London.
-
Well...you have some stuff to grammar check, Snail... :(
-
Send them to me and I'll be able to do them off-line... If I don't get overworked like last year. :doubt:
-
/me predicts that the Inferno board will suddenly have a lot less activity.

You ALREADY have them :P

Dark Hunter is wrong. Who came out with the "Inferno Night Cafè" idea? ME! :P
-
I have 1533 on the Inferno board.
You have only 1135.
-
You know, you could always ask why they blocked the site. Is it just the classrooms/labs that have been blocked, or is it the entire network? I could see the reasoning behind limiting classrooms and labs, but it'd be absurd to unconditionally block the entire network.
-
Oh, dont worry, I'm sure you'll be back in no time. :)
-

You have only 1135.
But I have 4,161 posts. You have 6,462 posts. And I have been away for a while. Take it in consideration :P

Meh. They're stupid that way.
Well, okay, I'm leaving now, so good bye.
-
Sigh...bye bye Spamboy! :(
-
Hmm... Weird, I can still access.
-
This thrad made me realise Snail managed >6000 posts in just over a year.....I think I've done circa 3500 in four.
-
Bye bye Snail. I hope you find a working proxy.
-
Hmm... Weird, I can still access.
Just realized the connection isn't working, and they were using a different one. The old blocked one will be up again tomorrow.
So much for my shimmer of hope. :(
Good bye.
-
Bye.It will suck with you not here. :(

Goodbye, dear friend.
Now there will be no one calling haloboy100 an idiot. Too bad.

Of course, in General Discussion it doesn't count does it!
DOH!
Ah well, I'll have to save my 1000th post for something special! ;7
-
Don't tell me that the NetSweeper Nazi has struck your school!
Try proxify.com or proxify.us etc.
-
Holy ****... he has 13.7 posts per day
-
My school now has a 100mb dl limit/week - used to be unlimited :(
Counts MB through the server or something
Now I can't download large files, and it's amazing how fast MB's can get used up in sites like HLP - but I can use the MB sparingly...
-
Ever heard of Your HomeTM? :wtf:
-
A bit late, but oh well *waves* seeya......
*dials phone*
[hush hush] yes, he's gone, thanks mr headmaster, that "delivery" will be with you shortly.. [/hush hush]
*hangs up*
j/k
I will miss the little pest. :blah:
-
Ever heard of Your HomeTM? :wtf:
I'm at a boarding school so the connection is everywhere in the school.
HOWEVER, the school is using a different connection on Mondays, Fridays and the weekends which is much less ****ed up, (DON'T ask me why I can't even begin to fathom why) so I'll be able to access on those days (well not Monday since I will be far away from my computer).
But, of course... I'll be less active. :blah:
Holy ****... he has 13.7 posts per day
Akenbosch has around 20, but that number is slowly declining. ;)
-
Bah, you should have seen me in my prime, ...........
-
Bah, you should have seen me in my prime, ...........
How long was your prime? A week? :p
Snail has been on here for a bit more than a year, and he already has about 2000 more posts than you. I've been on here almost twice as long as him, and I don't even have a third of his posts.
-
I live on this forum.
-
And you don't have a Real LifeTM.
-
Wha....Who???I thought you were gone Snail?
-
He said he wouldn't be that active. That's pretty much like saying "I'm gone", for him.
-
I live on this forum.
Could you specify? where is your shelter, where do you eat, etc.?

rotting plant matter i guess.
-
This thread is quire pointless, Snail is less active...but he's still here :blah:
-
Only on Fridays weekends and mondays. The rest of the time, the connection blocks this site and a lot of others (can you believe they blocked Hotmail? :wtf:)
-
I'm at a boarding school
You know that means your parents dont love you :D
-
How can someone love Snail?
Come on...S-N-A-I-L!!!
-
Ever heard of Your HomeTM? :wtf:
Hmmm....
*suddenly realises he has broadband, but excitement drops as his parents probably won't allow it*
-
Snail, you big wuss... get a flash drive, like I said:

So you can still access HLP on four out of seven days per week ? Then what's the point of this whiny emo thread ?
-
No, he though they would succeed in completely banning access at first.
@ Snail: Read my previous post! >.>
-
(can you believe they blocked Hotmail? :wtf:)
Now that I can actually somewhat understand.
-
My school got a program called NetSweeper. At first it blocked HLP and then it allowed it. After a while the school board put it on the local deny list for their network.

-
The obvious conclusion is that he is not at school.
-
Meh...he must have a girlfriend.
-
I am at home.
-
Ahh allright.
