Okay, I recently decided to play Freespace 2 again, but sadly when I turned it on and started playing, it'd give me the wrong ships in the campaign. So I uninstalled the whole thing, and re-downloaded it.
However, I got it directly from HotU this time, versus some different abandonware site I got it from before. Checking over Karajorma's FAQ after I extracted Freespace 2, it tells me that I shouldn't have the pictures in command briefings, or any voiceovers. However, I have these, just not the movies. Is the FAQ out of date or should I still download those files? Also, will Freespace Open fix any issues with the HotU download?

The FAQ is indeed a bit out of date. The current HotU version has everything, excluding the cutscenes.
Using FSO will enable you to see the cutscenes without the retail CDs.

Guess I better get Fs2 Open then... thanks.

The FAQ covers the first edition of the download.
I really ought to make that more clear. :)

Don't bother with HotU, use Turey's. HotU has some problems.

HotU has some problems.
No, no and no. The old HotU version was a bit cripple, yes. It had just enough stuff so that you could get the game running.
The current version on the site is basically the 1.2 version of the retail FS2, except that it lacks the cutscenes. I originally downloaded it to play FS2. Later, I only had to get the usual FSO stuff (the Launcher, the executable and the MediaVPs) to make it bling. But, no, the HotU version didn't have any problems.
I do admit, however, that Turey's Installer is the easy option in every case.

Oh.
