Title: Modding / Modeling Recruitment Possible?
Post by: Hyper Ion on September 01, 2007, 04:15:46 pm
Holas. Been lurking around here for a while (almost a year now) and finally decided to join out of the back of my brain nagging to get a campaign concept off the ground (surprise surprise).

I'll get to the point. I have absolutely no idea how to mod; at the very least I would be able to change only the most minor things such as the tech room info and maybe edit the music table. Also, I constantly become impatient with trying to learn Blender, and I doubt a newbie such as myself would be able to turn up the 18-20 models I want for my campaign. (I'm not a big fan of the stock models) By the time I get good enough, I fear Hard Light and Free Space may be dead.

Now then, I doubt a newbie such as myself with abosuletely no reputation would be able to get anyone to do his modeling for him, but I'm wondering if it may be possible. If not, can anyone point me to a decent modeling program for newbies such as myself?

have you checked Hades Combine (http://hades-combine.com/web/index.php)? - might be easier to find some stuff there than creating it yourself (or finding a freely living modeler apart from TrashMan)

I've been to Hades, but I need a lot more Shivan models than what's provided and there doesn't appear to be any Vasudan interceptor model that would have the design scheme of the Horus. I am tempted, however, to use two or three of the models available, though. Of course, those are mostly Terran models (big surprise there, eh?) I would ask for a modeler there, but a first glance at the forums says there aren't that many....

Try it. I found good replacements for models I wanted to create. :)

take a look at nukemod

I use stuff from there too. Check it out! :)

Downloaded the nukemod (after doing several searchs). I ran the mod in the hopes of viewing the models in the tech room, but then it exploded on me. What program can I use to view the models out of game?

Hmm.  Maja (http://hades-combine.com/web/index.php?ind=downloads&op=section_view&idev=2) and the tools in Turey's Installer (link in my siggy; only select "Tool" instead of everything) might come in handy...

I'd like to take the time to thank 0rph3u5 for making me reconsider Hades Combine. The Sirona is the perfect destroyer I had in mind for the Lifthrasir in my campaign. Beam placement is just superb in that ship, though I wish the bucket could be a bit bigger to fit more with the super destroyer feel. Of course, I must thank Spicious too.

A note on Maja: I had no idea how to work it. I'm betting there's a tutorial I may have overlooked?

Also, where can I find a free flac and ogg converter?

Audacity is a bit of overkill, but it will convert.
