Title: A coffin with engines and guns
Post by: Axem on September 03, 2007, 07:56:01 pm
Oh and greebles. If you've seen me in an IRC room, you've probably seen this before. :p

Now the above may be not the most flattering of descriptions but its an accurate one. ;) This was mostly a continued experiment on greebling (see also the Asteria (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v109/NarfPics/newasteria1.jpg) for an earlier experiment).

It's got 8 main guns, 2 on each side, and 2 missile batteries of 4 silos on the top and bottom (on the bottom you can see the silo doors open). I never got around to adding point defense guns, but there wouldn't be many of them (maybe 1 or 2 per critical location).

I might reduce everything so that I could easily (key word) put it into FS2, but knowing how my unfinished models to finished ships ratio, I wouldn't hold my breath. :p

it works as a RL design, no useless attachments, you can have ****LOADS of armor on that etc

A return to the beginnings of human spaceflight: utilitarian, boxy, and irredeemably ugly. Like the Orion, though, it's also living proof that a warship constructed that way looks like a warship; beauty in combatant craft should be accidental.

Exactly my thinking. A warship should be a warship first, and a warship second. Beauty is for cruise liners. ;)

Hades: I tend not to give poly counts on WIPs since my method of modeling requires quite a bit of optimization before finishing.

I like it. Not all ships have to be sleek and or pretty.

IIRC in Wraith Squadron they made a coffin (small smuggling container) with an engine and a gun.

didn't they call it the Lunatic?

lol they also had one man invade a corellian corvette armed with a modified X-wing blaster that shot a hole through the ceiling and affixed the captain standing immediately above the blaster to the ceiling of the bridge one floor up.

Yes, though I like to hop into Max to render with the skylight. :p I'm sure one day I'll make the jump to Max for modelling too.

It IS pretty in its own sort of kill everything in its path way ^^ if i were to designate this i would call it a heavy assault cruiser or frigate
