Title: DANGIT!!!!

why is it everytime i try and use modelview (gonna ask my parents if i can grab a copy of PCS2) sub-objects are missing from the model, I.E. turretsmesh and stuff. WHAT THE HECK IS WRONG!!?!?!??!?!

Do they show up in wireframe mode? If so, it may simply be because ModelView doesn't support the newer texture formats introduced by Freespace_Open.

Fair enough, moving on then. Are the retail models (the ones found in sparky_fs2.vp) giving you these problems, or is it models you've downloaded from a 3rd party?

Then it's probably a model and/or texture problem, and not something wrong with ModelView. Which bring us back to my first question so we can narrow it down: Do they show up in wireframe mode?

Yup, that rules out the textures as the culprit, and since retail models work, your ModelView installation is also fine. Has to be a model problem.

it happens to all my models. i even tried converting it to pof in PCS, then opening it..... same.

also, can someone tell me EXACTLY what folders i should make for my mod?

\FreeSpace2\<yourmodnamehere>\data\ and the normal stuff (\models, \effects, etc)... if you need those listed, let me know... but if you don't use SCP, you really are SOL, as you will have to dump it into your normal \data\ directories.

Titan, you really should move to SCP. It'll support anything you made in FS2 (although not vice versa) while giving you some more modding flexibility. Seriously, man, there's no good reason not to. No need to be so cynical of it. And this is coming from someone who didn't download SCP until he needed it to play Derelict.

There's no way he could know. If you installed FS, installing FSOpen wouldn' t be noticeable. It's only a few Mb.

So I say do it anyway. Unless you want to be a good person with a life outside FS... which would make you a novelty on Hard Light.  :p Once you start playing the FSOpen campaigns you'll never get off of it.

yeah man, just tell him your models are like art and to allow to express yourself. and this way you cant loose important little pices, and get glue and paint all over the nice oak table. in addition you can play with them with out breaking off a wing and cursing then getting in trouble for cursing and then getting grounded for cursing and then cursing some more earning yourself a night with no dinner no TV, no computer forcing you to curse even more cuz you have nothing to loose now. after that you sneek out of the house, steal a car and hold up a liquor store for a kit kat bar. so really downloading SCP will save you a huge headache and save your parents a huge headache as well. its win win! you stay out of jail and they can rest easy knowing that your not going to commit a felony, and why? cuz you have something cool to do.

I was wondering why his dad would not let him play, then I went to his info to look at age...
