Title: Ships in FRED

Hey, how do I get modded ships into FRED? And, how can I get the ships from FSport into FRED at the same time as the ships from FS2? Right now, I can only get ships into FRED based on the Mod I have loaded in the Launcher

create a shortcut to FRED open, and at the end of the target box add " -mod ___" Thats including the space before -mod, and you put the name of the mod into the space. For example, for infero you would put -mod infr1.

And this will have all the standard FS2 ships AND the modded ones?

What I really want to do is get the Fsport ships and the FS2 ships in the same mission builder..... as well as downloaded ships. How do I get downloaded ships into FRED?

When you tell it to load a mod using the -mod command, it will load the ships.tbl and stuff from that mod only. In the case of the mod not having a ships.tbl, it'll use the retail ships.tbl.

What you are trying to do will probably not work. Even if you were to take all the FS1-specific stuff from the Port's tables, turn it into a shp.tbm file and load that... it would exceed the 130 ships limit, and the program would yell at you through error messages.

Same thing with downloaded ships, you'd have to add them in through shp.tbm files.

I don't know exactly what you are doing, but I get the feeling it's something rather grandiose. The fact of the matter is that FS2 will only accept 130 different ship classes in one mod. Anything beyond that it will simply ignore.

You might be able to get away with it if you used an Inferno build, which allows 300 ships rather than 130, but I'm not sure.

An Inferno build would work but you'd need to open the FS1 Port's VP files and turn its tables into .tbms so that they'd work with the FS2 and media VP ones.

For the record: I'm a noob. I played around extensively with FRED in FS1, but its been awhile. So, where are the ships.tbl files? I can't find them. And what are shp.tbm files? If there's a FAQ/Tutorial for getting new ships into FRED, please let me know: I've found other tutorials but not one on getting new ships into FRED.

130 ships? I only want a few from FS port: the New Vasudan Ships/Installations, and then probably 10-15 new ships either already made, or, possibly, of my own construction (still working on that too....)

Appreciate the help.  :D
