I recently played the Incursion campaign (I think that was it) where the Shivans are exposed as religious fanatics. I have an idea for a campaign in which a small group of Shivan radicals seek asylum in the GTVA, but if they have a hive mind that kills that idea. Any advice and ideas would be helpfull.
P.S. This is my first time on a message board, please tell me if I did anything wrong.

I tend to think that Shivans don't really think in that way.

Shivan hive mind isn't canon, so I guess that would be okay. You campaign would definately be original/unique.
By the way, you didn't don anything wrong with your post.

Who ever says that they need to have one hive? Perhaps there are rogue hives! :drevil:

There is no canon proof that Shivans are a hivemind. There is a comment in the tech room that it has been speculated that they might be one in order to explain their disarray after the destruction of the Lucifer but there may be a whole bunch of other reasons why that is true.
Go make the campaign. :)

Thanks for the encouragement, I've already started working on the first mission. I am using retail FS2, (internet too slow to download SCP). I will post any progress in the Campaigns section.

Besides which, "disarray" is different from "mindlessness". The Shivans may have been unable to coordinate effectively after the loss of their linchpin warship, but by no means did it render them insensate or anything like that. The presence of Shivan vessels still fighting during Silent Threat (bad as the campaign was) testifies to that.
Short version: I don't think they're a hive mind per se (they might conceivably be connected mentally via technology tho).

Well, you could always have them being a hive mind, but also independent; ie, they can choose to put things on the "Internet" so to speak.. or not.

Ya, except its your mind online, so its capable of alot more. You could have a collective sentience, as well as your own, individual sentience.

Missions & Campaigns! It would only be in the FRED forum if he had a specific fault with the mission he wanted looked at.

How's this... They use a "psuedo" hive mind process for fleet coordination. Now you have two such "coordinators" in theater. The first one survived the great war and has been hiding out, the second one is from FS2 new fleet. They join up and the second one basically blows off the battle tested one proceeds to make the same tactical mistakes and assumptions the first one did (they don't get along and there is a pride thing going on also).
So long story short you can set up why/how this Shivan coordinator can rally his loyal troops and get the hell out of dodge and actually try to approach teh GTVA for whatever reason (honor of a victorious enemy, some greater understanding that maybe they MIGHT get along in the future with such a worthy warrior race, or maybe they NEED the help of the GTVA for something unknown to us for now...)
