I downloaded a number of cool mods from the combine, but I have a few questions. I downloaded the cool Nightmares ships, and I noticed that they seem to use new weapons. Where do I get said weapons? (were these ships used in a campaign?) Secondly, there seem to be a few different formats for downloads. Some come with .pof files and lots of other . pcx files, some come with .vp files, and an associated .txt file saying that the .txt file should be put in the ships.tbl or weapons.tbl file, and some come with ONLY a .vp file. HELP!

Ok, firstly, the nightmare fighters didn't come with a table entry for either weapons or ships. So you have to write them yourself.
However, the different file formats could be extracted first.
.pcx, .dds, .jpg, .tag --> Freespace 2/data/maps
.pof --> Freespace 2/data/models
.tbl --> Freespace 2/data/tables
.vp=.rar
You need a tool such as VPView to extract the stuff inside it.

edit: it was IDOTH
edit2: attached the .tbm

On the rare occasion you see a .ani file, I believe those go to data/interface.

Not always. It could be an effect. You have to think for a bit and use your common sense before placing .ani files (ie. If it's named Explo02 it goes into effects, if it's ss_bomber02 it goes in interface).
But only for old mods. Newer mods usually use .eff files for effects.

Thanks errybody!

wait, what vpview do I need? The one on this (http://www.vpview.com/) website? It doesn't seem to be able to open .vp files. :confused:

Get VPview from Turey's installer. That's the easiest way to get it and to make sure you have a working version. You can find turey's installer at www.fsoinstaller.com/downloads. If you have Java 6, get the java version. If you don't, or if you're not sure, get the EXE version. If you don't want all the cool upgrades it automatically installs, tell it no on everything except the "tools" pack. That's the one with VPview.

Or you could just go here (http://www.descent-network.com/descman/) and grab VPView and whatever other program looks fun to you. :cool:

meh, someone sent me a link, and then someone else said that was a bad version, and sent me somewhere else, where the download link wound up being dead. Then someone told me it was included in Turey's.
