Speaking of Gametap.

Has anyone tried to use the GT versions of the VPs with SCP?

GameTap games are all stored locally in what appears to be a proprietary container-esque format.  To the best of my knowledge, none of them support any exterior mods/patches, and FS2 is no exception.

That's a bummer.

Also, providing your enhancements to a pay-to-play service might be a violation of the original code release EULA, wouldn't it?

I'm sure not enthused about Gametap, personally.  When they picked up Tachyon: The Fringe, Novalogic locked us all out of any way to host private games, and changed it so only their "official" server could be used.  There's also a specific clause in the EULA that forbids anyone from creating a 3rd-party hosting/matchmaking service for the game.

However, most of that is just typical Novalogic.  They have a tendency to use a sledgehammer to crush an annoying fly.

Razorkiss, Tachyon isn't alone in that; I think multiplayer's pretty much been disabled across the board on the titles that GameTap picks up (except for the "challenge mode" for classic arcade games, that is).  However, I have heard that they'd like to enable multiplayer games at some point in the future, so we'll  see.

What I do know is that I feel that GameTap has been worth my money many times over.  Unlimited play of almost a thousand titles from just about every era and platform, Sam & Max, Myst Online: Uru Live...all for $25 or so every three months (and it'd be even less if I went with a full year's subscription).  That's good stuff as far as I'm concerned.

Not all of them, actually, our game worked on GT.

Hmm...I wonder if they were able to work something out with certain publishers, then.

To my knowledge, we did nothing special with Lore to get it to work.We just told them it had multiplayer. It was a busy couple weeks after launch, lots of GT players.

Dunno. A little bummed about the FS2 version though, was hoping for a cheap, legal way to get the VP's to people. C'est la vie.
