I was wondering about several things:
1. theres no sound. does it have anything to do with that OpenAL thing?
2. i played a lil bit on the FS2 demo, the HTL herc II was awesome. then i go and play no-mod SCP, and theres NO HTL, including the Satis vassy transport (of which theres a HTL thingamijig in FSport) whats goin on?
3. how do i activate cockpit views, thats one of the things i've been waiting fro the most.
and also, great work to all the SCP team, keep it up. ill see if my dad will lemme get any updates
-
Lack of sound is almost certainly due to an OpenAL misconfiguration (or a complete lack of OpenAL) you need to download it (Or ask your dad if you can install an SCP based stand alone game like TBP, WCS or BtRL which include the OpenAL download).
Check the mod tab on your launcher. It should say your selected mod is mediavps. If it says no mod, select mediavps.

I thought the Turey installer grabbed OpenAL?
-
IIRC it links to the page. Lots of people don't pay attention though.
-
I need to remember why we're not just including the OpenAL dll's...
-
what about the cockpit views?
EDIT: and also, why are some ships UBER AWESOME looking (herc I and II) and some are just a mild re-texture (myrmidon)
-
I'd ask the artists who made them, not the programmers ;)
-
@Titan
The work to upgrade the ship textures started earlier than the High-polying of the models, both are complex jobs, and neither are finished completely, new models are released with each generation of the MediaVP's, so as long as you keep that up to date you'll have most of the models that are available at the time.

WHAT ABOUT THE COCKPIT VIEWS?!??!?!?!
-
Out of all the retail ships, only the Serapis has a cockpit view; most of this cockpit view stuff you hear about is from user-made mods.
Anyway, copy ships.tbl into your data/tables folder and add the following to the Serapis' $flags entry:
"show ship"
That's my understanding of it, and if noone else is going to reply that'll have to do.
Great that your parents "saw the light" finally. ;7 Now you can really appreciate FS as a modern-looking game. Well, I guess that there's more to life than graphics and not all people are that shallow. But regardless, now you can use FRED Open and the new features.
-
i just wish there were more uberHTL ships, like the Herc (AWESOME TEXTURES) i know graphics dont matter as much as gameplay, but its still AWESOME to have AWESOME graphics
-
Other ships have workable cockpits. Bobb's HTL Hercules should work with "show ship", as well as a few others.
-
yeah, you have to yank out the SHIPS.TBL using a VP veiwer or editor and under the $FLAGS: line enter in "SHOW SHIP" and if the ship comes equiped with a cockpit model then your good to go. if you enter that line and nothing shows up in game dont worry, the model just doesn't have a cockpit model.
-
Or use modular tables to do that exactly same thing...
-
agreed, that idea is actually better than mine. good call Wanderer.
things to remember with Modular tables:
the table document name must be Shipname-shp and save it as a TBM file. if you already have downloaded some addons that have TBM files its often easier to copy past and rename it to your ships name and then change and save the data in it using word pad. this eliminates any problems with the game not seeing your TBM file because its just a text document. i attatched a TBM thats zeroed out so you can either fill it in your self or just paste in you own info.

You just answered your own question.

Myrmidon does have a HTL model.
