Title: Campaign installation
Post by: andy9841 on September 16, 2007, 02:37:04 pm
Hi there..

I only discovered this whole Freespace 2/Babylon 5 total conversion yesterday, i've installed it and I must take my hat off to everyone involved. fantastic job, well done!!

I maybe however be having a few issues. I've installed the game via the online installer which seemed to work fine. I have loaded the game up and noticed the Earth Mimbari war, and Raider war missions.

Now the Earth Mimbari war seems to only be a demo, so I have downloaded what I believe is the full version and installed it, but I can not seem to access it. I installed it to the default location of c:/program files/the babaylon project, but it does not seem to show up in the campaign list.. Am I doning somthing wrong?

I've noticed the installed has put the missions and speech files, ending in .vp in the root of The Babylon Project folder. Is this correct or do I need to do any additional configuration?

:welcomegreen:

1. As far as I know, there isn't a full version of the Earth-Minbari War campaign, so I'm a little worried of what you've possibly acquired.

2. The .vp files are most necessary for the game to work. And with TBP, they should be in the root folder. So nothing bad in having them.

If the Earth Mimbari war files are in their own sub-directory, then use the "Mod" tab on the Launcher, and select that folder as your mod.

Wait... what?! Is there a full release of the EMW? Where?

This is where I downloaded it from:

http://babylon.hard-light.net/mission_downloads.php

So I wonder if it is just the demo and the reason im not seeing it is cos i've just re-installed the demo?

If I install any further missions then am I best installing them to a seperate folder and referencing the through the Mods tab in the Launcher then?

Thanks for you help guys.. Finally, whats the best campaigns in your opinion? Can you fly any of the EA Capital ships then? So far ive only manages a Starfury, which was cool... But you know im yerning for some pigger guns..  :pimp:

Oh, that. It's just the same demo that comes with TBP 3.4. Which is also why it's not showing up as a new campaign in the Campaign room.

As for other campaigns, I've been successful with installing the campaign vps to the root folder, which on the other hand is not advisable if you play FSO. I'd recommend at least Drums of War parts 1 and 2 and The Black Hand episode 1. You'll find them if you use the search function of the forums.

Cool. just been playing a few now.. Great work guys

If you don't mind me saying, not a criticism at all, but it is a lot more distracting with no speech. trying to read and shoot at the same time is hard.  :nervous:

Makes you realise how much more atmospheric speech is in a game as well

Yeah. It is hard when you have to protect an important and weak target from bombers and at the same time fight off two wings of agile enemy fighters from your back, while also trying to read the plot-revealing discussions that's going on between important characters. But then again, organizing voice acting is hard even with projects that have teams working on them, let alone with 0rph3u5's one-man productions. But you'll get used to it. If all else fails, you can always wait for the fight to end, then hit F4 and read the dialogue from there. I know, it sucks, but it's better than using Nitrosoft Sam or equivalent.

you can use F4 to see a log of all messages -- shoot first and ask questions read later  :D

yep, it is. This is also the reason why campaigns which are not voice-acted have fewer in-game messages then those with.
But NEVER use that microsoft sam ! It is CRAP ! And, after all, it won't work with most campaigns since the designers often use some kind of short sound for each message, and when there is a wave, MS remains silent. Thank god  :blah:

I don't think there are flyable big ships in TBP and even in FSO there are only a few mods that enable that. You just gotta stick to fighters.

I think the Whitestar is the biggest player flyable ship in the game.

yep and it is only fun while attack bigger ships or wasting fighters from a distance with the laser.

you can (can ?) also fly the Shadow Scout, but it is a little bit smaller.

finish Raider Wars. After that, you can fly most ships in some of the missions (if you play them in the Tech Room)
